The individual responsible for the attack apparently live streamed a 17 minute video of the massacre. The attack apparently occurred at more than one mosque and the police have someone in custody but are still fearing the assailant may be at large. Confirmed 9 dead, descriptions of the video would indicate a much a higher amount of fatalities.

They took him alive, police pinned his suv, there's video of the actual arrest.

3 men and 1 woman in custody currently and possible more involved.

Main shooter is apparently an Australian from Sydney. They should bring him back over and hang the animal from the harbour bridge.

Dreadful, dreadful event. NZ is a very tolerant society with strict gun laws, but unfortunately this tragedy still occurred in our country.

40 now reported dead. This is unprecedented for NZ. Thoughts go out to all those involved and thanks to the police who did excellent work catching the vermin responsible.

No, we do not have the death penalty here. There has never been a terror attack here, nor any crime of this magnitude. I expect, once this has gone through investigation, prosecution and trial, those guilty will be imprisoned for life.

3 of the 4 arrested are connected and 3 were described as gunmen.

You mean APART from the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbour, anyway. Sure, it may well have been done by French nationals at the deniable behest of the French government and DGSE but it still hit ALL the hallmarks of a terrorist act.

It's relatively free of religious inspired nationalist hate-crime terrorism, though.

Yes, I had not considered the Rainbow Warrior attack, which was a state sponsored act by the French Government of the time. This is the first time we have seen an extremist attack here. I can only hope it is the last.

My local newsagency says the main attacker had been radicalized while visiting Europe and seeing how many immigrants we have here. As disgusting and tragic as the attack is I'd have to say his hypocrisy is perhaps the worst part of it - European christians are just somewhat older immigrants than muslims in Australia or New Zealand.

You can think about immigration what you want, but basically stating they are barbarian invaders and then pulling literally a move such invaders would do is just hypocrisy.

IF both side had atleast a point (Guns everywhere an issue and muslisms would lead automatically to a problem) then i would be in one of the worst countries period in europe.

This is disgusting.

I also read this "manifesto" straight off google and its clear that this disgusting persons intent is to divide people even further along political lines, something that appears to be working so far, at least in the UK reporting of the incident.

As someone who works with literally hundreds of muslims every single day I can see this was just done to drum up further hate, everything this person did was pre planned to maximise that effect, he states himself that is his intent, his target, the weapons, the language he used, its all pre designed to cause as much fracturing as possible.

Honestly, I wish news outlets could practice more self-censorship at times like this, when it comes to airing the words or views of these lunatics. The only thing we need to know about the killer is that he got caught. Focus on the victims.
