High everyone
First impressions are that this new addition to the game is just as bad for t(e game as flyrants were before they got appropriately costed (I main nids just to be clear, I called flyrants out at the time).
But these are just first impressions, so my question is do we have any feedback on assassins in tournament games so far ?

Battle-tested Knight Castellan Pilot

I played in my states first ITC style tournament last weekend 1250pts ( ETC tournaments here predominantly). Ran an imperium soup army
Game 1 v plaguebearer spam - chose vindicare
T2 both his psykers were gone from vindi double shooting for 2 turns (t1 saw one on 1w and the other on 2w
T3 two additional characters were gone (got really lucky on rolls, 3 on both D3's and mortal wounds killed them)
Game 2 v tau - riptide and broadsides - chose vindi
took out 5 characters that game, lots of character markerlights w/ 3 wounds meant easy pickings for him
He did whiff to wound a character on 1w, which cost me the game. I completely forgot the strat to farm back CP, which would have seen me have enough CP to reroll the dice.
Game 3 v 4 guard tanks - chose culexus
maxed out behind enemy lines
Game 4 v nids/ gsc - chose vindi
killed GSC psyker and patriarch in 3 turns
11 characters from vindi almost always maxes out headhunter, amazing for slay the warlord
Assassians are near auto-include now as they offer so much flexibility and options for winning.
Other list assassians didn't perform so well - one ran triple vindi's and they whiffed alot.
Mine overperformed on the day, but even in ETC style tournaments they offer so much threat. Alot of stratagies in other armies rely on eaisly sniped characters, and the strat to counter the vindicare is to park them backfield out of LOS, which is fine by me as it ensures alot more board control/impedes their army strats very well.

I really like how GW reformulated assassins. I always thought it would be neat to have a 'sideboard' for tournaments similar to MtG. The assassins are, for now, as close as Imperium players will get to a sideboard mechanic.
Regardless of how the assassins can be (properly) added to an Imperium army, a lot of tournaments require that the army list be final and complete to the point that things like relics, pre-deployment stratagems, psychic powers, etc. and likely now even assassin need to be chosen and placed on the army list beforehand.

Huh here warlord traits, relics, psychic powers etc are swappable each game and predeployment strategems even more so.
Sideboards would be nice idea but with just imperium it's just rich getting richer syndrome. Most powerful faction getting even more powerful.

I am curious. Which tourneys require add'l relics (I cannot recall if the inital relic needs to be pre-choosen by the ITC), pre-deployment strategems and psy-powers pre-printed/selected before the tourney?

The 'reserve 85 and pick whatever you want' Stratagem was not allowed at Adepticon so there were a lot less Assassins since you needed 3 minimum.

Never Forget Isstvan!

I just did an RTT with the assassin 85 reserve.
Took the vindi twice and a calidius once.
Vindi did good work againgst necrons, and decent againgst aeldari.
Calidius didn't do a lot againgst demons. He did play his backline a bit defensivly because of her, but I think it actually hurt me more than helped. It was the only game I didn't win. I got an 18 point draw.

with all the shield drones a Tau can field i cant understand how you can kill any character, about Nurgle he rolled really bad on saves and you high on wounding 1/3 of wounds are denied by FNP

Yes i used the shoot twice strat many times. very handy. He only whiffed a few times for me but others whiffed alot more

Yes I play tau a lot so I know to clear drones before I do anything else. The drones were clustered around the suits, by the time I started focusing the main characters (the ones near the drones) they were all gone.
Nurgle doesnt get saves vs vindi, he ignores invulns and has a -3 rend. yeah with FNP's and me rolling high on damage and hot on MW I chewed through them pretty quickly. I still had another full turn of shooting from him alone to finish the characters off, probably would have gotten it done even with lower rollings.

I faced a Vindicare who was able to kill my Swarmlord in 1 shot who had 8 wounds remaining. Rolled a 6 to wound and 5 damage from the shot. Then the headshot rule did the last 3 wounds to kill him. Obviously above average rolling but it happened lol. Lucky me.

I read that as he took the vindi in two different games, and the calidus in another.
