I'm considering adding some chains to my Daemon Prince, mostly a line or two wrapped around his torso and some ends dangling here and there. I've seen tutorials on making green stuff chains, and it looks like something I can pull off. I've also seen really fine metal chains online that look fit for purpose also. Have you used or seen actual metal chains on models before? How did they look? Do they take paint well? Or should I just focus on making some green stuff ones? Cheers.

Yes. Premade chains paint up just fine. I’ve used them on numerous minis and never had a hitch.

I've tried my hand at sculpting chains and I found the whole endeavor to be overly tedious. Buying chain will be much easier, if perhaps more expensive.

I've used jewelry chain from a bead/crafts store. You can buy it by the foot for a couple dollars, and it comes in a variety of sizes and styles. The main issue with it is that it will want to hang naturally, so if you want to represent more dramatic poses you may need plastic or resin chain instead.
I used it here:

You can get it in smaller sizes than that. (I actually got the ship's wheel from the bead store also. Surprisingly useful source for certain types of bits.)

Another good chain source is model boat building.

Real chain, all day every day. Dollar store jewelry is your friend. As others have mentioned, it holds paint well. Arguably NSFW, so spoilered; If you have them 'hanging', you'll probably need to 'set' them with a water/PVA mix to avoid them eroding your paintjob/mini.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look around nearby stores for some jewelry chain. So i'll obviously super glue the "tight" chains that don't hang, and I'll do what you suggested with PVA on the hanging chains. It looks like you guys have painted yours, is that right? If so, how did you go about it? Did you spray prime->basecoat->wash etc? It honestly hadn't occurred to me to think about the metal chipping the paint. Insight like that is exactly what I was looking for.
That Ork pirate ship wagon is fking baller! Really ingenious use of the Dark Eldar hull.
And holy hell, that Slannesh daemon is out of this world!

I primed black, drybrushed with whatever Boltgun Metal is called now. No wash, wasn't necessary for me.
Also, sometimes the PVA step isn't necessary, depending on the chain. The chain coming from Herself's piercing has links so small that the primer effectively glued them in place.

He's not going to be anything amazing. Just a standard CSM winged daemon prince, with a big pile of skulls on the base and some chains draped around him. But yeah, if I'm happy with how it turns out I might.
I'll definitely check that out, thanks again.
