So, I’ve just got this model for my Ad Mech army. I want to play the army in both friendly and competitive games and will build up a wide variety of their models to chop and change with.
Which weapon option should I go for? Magnarail lance or transonic cannon?
Thanks for any help!!

I think the transonic cannon is superior.

It depends what he's doing. If he's boosting the range of shooty units then he can't move, and obviously you want the lance. Otherwise the cannon.

To be honest there's a strong case for saving the points and going with the cannon every time. That 18" range with the lance (or 21" if he uses his trick) really isn't a lot.

On the whole I think that, while this guy looks cool, a dominus is superior. Rerolls to hit tend to be more valuable than a few more inches of range on guns that can already shoot a long way. But I haven't tried him so I could easily be wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. There's no points difference between the two options and I want to use him in various styles. I am aware that Dominus are better and Engineseers are much more competitive but I just like the model

my admech experience is solid paper-theory as i havnt played them yet but comparing him to Dominus, unless you are using him to make your walky guys walk faster (priests, ruststalkers) hes not worth it.
Which means hes going to get close to the enemy quick since he has to go with those guys. Cannon is better, but only slight so if you need a couple points i'd probably drop him back to the lance anyway.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Personally I have found he is worth it if you take him for the +6" range on Plasma Ryza Servitor Maniple Destroyers (the +6" really helps boost their threat range). I would also tend to equip him with the transonic cannon as a cheeky little tactic could be to give him the Ryza warlord trait for a flat 3 damage flamer as well...

You’re right. I don’t like making such permanent commitments. But he’s only going to be taken in non competitive play so it’s not game changing either way!
