So if you guys were to base you old minimarines in 32mm bases like the new primaris ones how would you go about HQs? 32 or 40mm bases? and why? are 40mm bases to big for minimarine HQs?

Right now they should be on 32mm, 40mm could be considered as cheating.

But I thinking about 40mm myself, because 1 size larger for the characters seems like a future.

And this is why GW should make base size a stat, with a caveat explaining that you should discuss with your opponent how to deal with older based models pre-game.

32mm. Because right now they match the rest of the army & when I'm done they'd still match the rest of the army.

I can't remember where it is, but there was something on WC saying that any old bases/models can just be used as the normal ones.

Or people could just stop being anal about it and use whichever base looks the best.

And who gets to decide what "looks the best"? You? Me? I declare that all my Captains are on 200mm bases now. Gosh, such a coincidence my aura range is now larger. Gosh darn it, if only the model didn't "look the best" on a 200mm base!

I re-based my Blood angels on 32s. Everyone but my Captain and special characters which are on 40mm because they look better.

I've played in events without any trouble. Because for some strange reason people at tournaments are less anal about gak like this, then people on Dakka.

Yup, I have no idea why people like to both have nice models (instead of old, butt-ugly "my feet hang outside of base rim" 25 mm junk leaving no room for basing) and not cheat by making sure their models are on par with everyone else instead of being modeled for advantage. Weird, isn't it?

special chars on 40mm bases I suspect will slowly become the norm, Primaris HQs and the new Chaos Marine HQs seem to be going on 40 MM bases

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Yeah, between this and 'modeling for advantage' I genuinely worry about the sanity of some Dakkanauts when it comes to what the game of Warhammer 40k actually is and how they seem treat it in the forums. Even among miniatures war games, 40k is a poor system to worry about such conceits compared to the vast flaws in ways to gain 'advantage'. My only comfort is that I don't really think even among those that take exception to these things in the forums here, actually make a big deal about them in IRL.

I have yet to experience any screeching since I have started putting my 100+ old metal Blood Angels on 30mm round lipped bases. I find the metal manlets look great on the 30mm bases, and since they all got stripped recently, it was time for an upgrade from 25mm bases.

I've been leaving most of old marines on 25mm and putting the sergeants and other "command" individuals on 32mm, making it easier to identify them.

It never ends well
