Hey guys
Forgive the bad attempt at humour in the thread title, I was bored.
I am looking at possibly signing up for my first ITC event this coming summer.
How do these events actually work?
The pack for this particular event is still in the works, so I dont really know the ins and outs of any finer points that are event specific, but I wouldnt mind a little mor einformation on ITC standards in general.
How do they work?
What's the "normal" build styles (please no "well soup duh", I mean MSU, Horde, Mech etc)?
What are these 'tertiaries' I have heard a small bit about?
how is terrain usually handled?
Are there any restrictions besides the usual 3-of-a-kind, 3 detachments rule?
As an offhand, border-postscript, am I right in assuming I probably cant use my main force (no prizes for guessing what that is...)
Cheers

This is the 'standard' itc mission format.
However no itc event is required to follow this format, so until you see your events specific rule pack, any answer given could be completely off.

Related question. How big is the LOS blocking terrain in the middle usually? Bigger peices cast bigger shadows.

You actually can use Necrons, there's apparently a build of them that did very well at the LVO this year, going 5-1, killing Ynnari and Castellan lists. https://www.reddit.com/r/Necrontyr/comments/ap0yu6/congratulations_to_tomas_christensson_for_his_top/
Not saying it's super easy to do, but it is possible to do well with them.

What I've found is that in general ITC is just like normal 40 except Terrain wise, on the first floor of ruins, LOS is blocked.
THis image is a good example. In normal play the red windows allow LOS. In ITC, they are boarded up, and do not allow LOS.

A big task in ITC is picking your secondary missions. I would sit and look at lists for an hour or two and decide how you might pick secondaries against them. And then I'd sit and look at your own and determine how easy your own list might give up secondary points.

Yup. This is why I stopped taking a Knight as my Warlord. It saves me a few CP to do it, but it gives up gives up Titanslayer AND Kingslayer if he takes out both my Knights, instead of having him capped at just getting 4 points for Titanslayer.

Strange, I'm moving in the other direction with the proliferation of Assassins, and Snipers.
Its a great game, I love this. Both are valid responses, to different situations that exist in the meta.

This is vital. I have only played in 2 ITC tournaments. I have read a lot. First know your army list inside and out.
One of my first list had a couple single Vyper units. That is easy First Strike....That is you need to a kill a unit on your first turn as part of Old Skool.
You see the game within the game for ITC is list building not just to win, not just for missions but also to deny points for your opponent.
Many players will do what they can to make sure their opponent cannot max out on the Secondaries. So they make take 3 Characters or less (the one secondary needs 4 character kills), They may take a horde army but try to keep it under 80 models ( 1 requires you to kill 80 models). They will try to take only 3 Vehicles/Monster(again needing 4 kills to max out), etc
The secondaries can give you 0,1,2,3, or 4 points each game for each of the normal 3 you pick for that game. So if you only leave your opponent max of 2 or 3 they can have a handicap point wise provided you STILL can achieve the mission AND get a max of 4 each on your own Secondaries….plus sometimes the missions have a Tertiary points.
It isn't as complicated as it sounds but choosing carefully is critical in a tight game.

So, do these secondaries change form game to game?
The document linked to by secretForge earlier in this thread didnt make that bit all that clear.
Also, is there a definitive list of all of the secondaries in the game right now anywhere? Or would that directly relate to the individual tourney pack for the even tim talking about?

the secondaries do change from year to year. Some get removed others get added.
And yes you can change what you choose each mission.
Some are just easy like kill so many units. Others require you to be on Objective Markers or be in the enemies deployment zone or 1 unit entirely within each quadrant by the end of the game.
Some armies can pull of some objectives easier than others and vice versa depending on the secondary Automatically Appended Next Post: Most Tyranid armies will most likely choose behind enemy lines sort of secondary....whereas a Guard army mostly would not.
