I am interested in the use of some of the lesser known/least used Imperium units within 8th.
Currently I am experimenting with Inquisitors who you take as Psykers and gift the power Terrify too. This in combination with a 20 man unit of Fulgurite Electro Priests is particularly harrowing for anything on the receiving end of said charge.
I am keen to read the communities views on such units and whether or not anyone else has been looking into mixing up the 'normal' approach to playing Imperium.
Let the discussion commence......

Celestine + Bullgryns used to be pretty hot, but they walked that back... I'm still looking long and hard at Bullgryn synergy, Astropaths, Preachers, etc. Also looking at maybe running Jacobus alongside a Guard component with Straken and Catachan infantry... see what his banner does for staying power.

Macphail, interesting read dude. I really haven't even begun to look into the likes of Bullgryn, they read like they can be hard to shift though right? Don't their shields help out with this?
Any new thoughts lately on combos? I have been taking a look into the new 'Phobos' only psychic powers for the Marines, there's an ability in their that reads like Warp Time by the looks of it but can only be used on Phobos Marines, there's one that can farm CP from characters too, some really interesting little pieces in there.

Bullgryns are the only unit in the game I think that can get a -1 save... meaning even against AP3 plasma they get a 2+ save. Take the slabshields so they're at 2+ armor, then cast Barrier for +1 save, then get in cover for +1 save, then use the Get Down guard stratagem for +1 save. Boom, -1 armor save. It will take a volcano cannon to reliably kill them in cover like this.
In melee they can only get to a 1+ save though, so AP3 weapons can still force them to take a 4+ save, but they're still pretty good. Very hard to kill, very good melee attacks.

Bullgryns in general seem to have a bad reputation.
I often run 9 in my (pure) IG-lists, and they tend to be the workhorses of the army.
With a 2+ or 4++, with super-easy access to +1 to saves against shooting via a stratagem and +1 to saves in general via a psychic power, it's quite easy to bump them to a 0+ or 2++ vs shooting and a 1+ or 3++ in close combat. Then of course you can still put them in cover for an additional +1 to armorsaves against shooting.
A Ogryn Bodygyard with the Deathmask of Olanius(?) and a Slabshield will also have a 2++ against everything.
Edit: Ninjaed.

Salamander Command Vehicles! Add +1 to hit to a Vehicle within 6". They go great with bane blades. Same with Trojan Support Chimeras. They allow vehicle hit re-rolls.
Sentinel Power Lifters - Great little rushdown tank for turn one charges. 3 attacks at s10 ap2 d3.
Master of Ordinance - Grants re-rolls to any indirect fires. Mortars, Wyverns, Deathstrikes. Great for that turn 3 Deathstrike. And, grants an ARTILLERY BARRAGE.
And finally, the all powerful DEATHSTRIKE! Load one of these badboys into your backfield for only 133pts. Then, on turn 3, while your opponent is laughing at you, unleash hell! Average if it goes off of 15 mortal wounds, depending on your opponents inability to break up his/her forces, 20+ if they suck. Then boost that with the say, Catachan, and you have 3d6 (re-rollable amount) of D3 mortal wounds, for every unit withn 6" of the unit targeted. So, at max:
54 Mortal Wounds on the target, and d3 Mortal wounds on anything within 6". Thats a dead Warhound Titan and at least a few dead infantry. Or it just sits there the entire game like a dumbshit and doesn't do anything.

Bobby G buffs non-Astartes, too.
It might not be worth it, but it seems to be lesser-known.
