So me and a group are playing a 500 point round robin tournament for quick funzies however a problem has come up for the necron player bringing a list containing a catacomb command barge, and 3x annihilation barges. Now the FAQ says that if no model does not fly then you automatically lose the game but his arguement is "Hover" it isn't the same as fly. Can I get some other opinions on this?

Its not the Fly ability, its the Flyer battlefield role.

EDIT: AKA, Doom Scythes are the only thing affected by this.

Faq refers to flyer slot, not fly keyword.

This. Equally, technically an army made up of marauder bombers and thunderhawks remains legal since they're Lords of War, not Flyers.

Wrong. Night scythes and night shrouds too.

The rule applies to all 'flyers', not all models that have 'fly'.
An IG Valkyrie is a flyer, and can hover, but it can never hold an objective.

Scroll down to where they list Flyers for the Necron vehicles

In any case, it's a sidebar since the units listed by the OP are not flyers, so the army wouldn't trigger the auto-lose rule.

You are wrong. Night scythes and night shrouds have the flyer battlefield role.

Whether it is correct or not, Battlescribe lists the following as Flyer battlefield-role entries:
Doom Scythe,
Night Scythe,
Night Shroud.

So does GW's website (but Night Shroud is not listed at all).

Anyone actually playing Necrons will be able to check their codex and easily tell, no point arguing over here.

The point is the rule only applies to the Flyer battlefield role, not the FLY keyword.

Night Shroud is a Forgeworld model and has the symbol for the Flyer Battlefield Role (see page 241 of the Big Rule Book for a listing of the Battlefield Role Symbols) in the Imperial Armor Index: Xenos book.

The Doom and Night Scythes also have the Symbol for the Flyer Battlefield Role.
