Can someone clarify to me when exactly can you use the Humble Escape stratagem. I`m not sure about the sequence of the actions. The real question is if the enemy fight back before or after you move.

Use this Stratagem in the Fight phase after a WINDRIDER HOST
unit from your army has fought. That unit can immediately make a
move (and Advance) as if it were your Movement phase. If there are
any enemy units within 1" it can Fall Back instead.

1. Case

1.1 Spears fight
1.2 Humble Escape
1.3 You move/adv or fall back before the enemy retaliate

2. Case

1.1 Spears fight and kill vehicle
1.2 The vehicle disembark the soldiers and then blow out
1.3 You move/adv or fall back before the enemy retaliate

A unit fighting is the process of selecting the unit, piling in, making attacks, and then consolidating. You use this stratagem after you have completed that process for the unit, before you start the process for another unit.

So in case 1, that is accurate. You are able to move away before anyone fights you.

In case 2, again this is accurate. Resolving the explosion and the disembarking happens immediately when the vehicle is destroyed, so in this instance before consolidating the spears, and therefore before they finish fighting. But then you can use the Strat, and again it will be before any other unit has a chance to fight.

As Stux says, the act of "Fighting" is going though each and every step of the fight phase. You use the stratagem after you have finished your consolidation move for that action of fighting.

The only problem is that spears can't be part of a Windrider host.

Really good catch, i really have not noticed that.
I can`t believe they did not give the only unit that really can benefit from the host the keyword.
I guess after the wraith host and windrider host is mostly useless and hardly worth investment.

2x 9 Windriders with Scatterlasers, a Farseer with Guide and Doom and a Warlock with protect/jinx can make use of the 3 CP -1 AP strat, as making Scatter Lasers -1 AP is a good bump in efficiency against a lot of targets and the number of shots (72) can make it worthwhile.

Its not the place, but for 3 cp statistically you kill 5-6 more models, without jinx and doom. The problem i`m having are T8 target and the lack of melee, i just don`t wanna invest so much CP just to have one extra AP. If the strat was 1-2 CP maybe, but for 3 i don`t think its worth it. For 3 CP most armies just shoots second time.
