Looks like a ripoff of A Quiet Place, but it's not. it was a book written previous to that movie. However, it does bring something new to the burgeoning "monsters attracted to noise" genre: mediocrity. In a word: Dire.

Quite possibly the worst Netflix movie so far. Every part of this is execrable - the CGI, the plot, the dialogue, the whole thing.

Character gets mauled by giant bat thing. Kid asks "does it hurt". I rolled my eyes so hard I almost detached a retina.

I've never seen a movie that squanders talent quite like these guys did with Stanley Tucci, who deserves far, far better.

Strong 2 / weak 3 out of 10.

I've got a personal 3:1 ratio theory with Netflix "original movie" content*.

We'll get one superb one, then three that just blow ass, start to finish or are just unfinished projects from other studios that Netflix bought. Highwaymen is 1, now we get this and 2 more. I wasn't planning to watch this, but now I have to check it out after your stellar review.

*Their shows are generally better, if not prone to being too long.

Yea no. I'm a Texan. That just looks like a nice afternoon with a shotgun.

Even some of the clearly unfinished properties Netflix bought and "polished" and released, I found pretty watchable. If they want to fill a niche of movies you watch and then immediately forget, like the Cloverfield Paradox, that's OK. I hope some of you guys also watch this because I need to know if you also found it as aggressively bad as I did.

Also, one of the characters is deaf, and they signal it by playing a piercing high-pitched tone constantly throughout the movie. That was a treat.

I actually watched this this morning, went to bed, woke up for work, and liked it less upon recollection. And I kind of hated it initially!

Its true. All of it.

I'd have preferred a movie about the scientists who discovered the things in the cave, and how/if they escaped, but that would just be The Descent 1+2 with big bats instead of troglodytes.

I should have watched this. Instead I watched a series of youtube bits on Barbarossa. The wife came home during the Battle of Moscow. When the Winter Counteroffensive came, and with vodka in hand I declaimed look how my relatives are greeting your relatives, she got mad...

I watched it last night. It was OK, I didn't hate it, but I think I could have done better things with the 2 hours I spent watching it.

Yeah, it was bad, but it didn't make me rage like The Head Hunter did. Just a waste of time, talent and someone's money.

Also thought at times this movie might have been better than the over-hyped Bird Box.

Both scientists appeared to die immediately, and yet somehow, their footage was available. How? They sure weren't livestreaming that far underground... /handwave

When you have millions of carnivorous bats locked in a cave for millions of years, what are they eating all that time? /handwave

I wasn't, like, angry when it was done (Like I was for the Predator, which felt more intentionally insulting than merely bad*) but I definitely, at the midpoint though the movie, said to my wife "geez, this sucks" and then we spent the second half of the movie ripping on it.

*of course, I also saw The Predator in theaters so it cost me $45ish to go, as opposed to Netflix being a sunk cost

The end where the narrator says the monsters can’t stand the cold, yet lived underground for millions of years? /handwave

This is one of those movie that the more I think of it, the more it makes me angry.

I watched it just to see how bad it is... and not even sure how to qualify it.

The actors in the movie actually aren't bad. The premise is derivative but not completely played out and the plot itself is... okay I guess?

Yet every step of the way, the film just makes you groan. Like how at the beginning it repeats the "I live vicariously through you" line twice, for like no reason. What? Who talks like that? Is his best friend a robot from a box that only knows one rebuttal joke? The whole "oh my daughter is learning about boys time to be super protective" bit is somehow incredible insulting, not because it's sexist or anything, but because it so damn lazy. And then there's the scene where they're leaving the city and you see jets flying around and what, they're bombing the city in the background? How is bombing the city helping? What, they just wanted a lorn shot of civilization collapsing and couldn't think of anything better? Immediately go to "oh no crying baby in horror movie where you must not make noise and I'm just like "fething seriously?" Que guy who apparently knows everyone should be quiet to avoid death, and decides the best way to shut up a dog is to fire a gun into the air.

And that's the first 20 minutes of the movie.

Lazy really describes the entire movie from start to finish. It's like everyone was just putting in for a pay check, and no one cared. The only horror in the film is how incredibly played out every single cliche it throws at you is (and every scene is a cliche) and that no one even bothered to try and string together a sensible list of cliches at that. They just grabbed from the bag and threw it on the camera.

EDIT: Actually hold up, we should all try and get Cinema Sins to do this movie. That would actually be 20 minutes of worthwhile entertainment, if you enjoy watching some guy make videos ripping on movies.

Cinema Sins was pretty quick to gak on(rightfully) Bird Box. I think it was a week or so after BBs release and he tore that movie a new one. Will be interesting to see what he does with this.

I watch so many of his videos now, I start making mental notes on when I think he’ll ding them for a sin.
