Hey gang

Quick question. If I roll for an advance but dont get the result I need and only move some of the distance up to the maximum the normal move distance but not inclusive of the extra distance generated by the advance roll. Does the unit count as having advanced?

If you claim the unit is advancing, and roll for the advance amount, it counts as having advanced, even if you don't move at all.

Making the advance roll is a commitment, you can't just undo it if it doesn't work out how you wanted it to.

This is the truth. You can't have it both ways. Once you declare you're advancing, the unit advanced even if you don't move the unit that turn.

I was asking for the purposes of vectored engines. Sorta thought it might be a trap.

Note that because of this it is possible to have Advanced without having moved at all.

While advancing stops you using most ranged weapons, and Assault weapons get the -1 for advancing regardless of whether you moved, there are niche cases where this is useful. For instance, Ravenwing can use it to activate Jink without actually moving if they want (useful for Darkshrouds when you've carefully setup ranges for the aura ability!).
