Let's say that the 8th Cadian and the Mordians both land on a planet to claim it for the Emperor. Problem is, they both have conflicting orders on what they have to do with the planet, resulting in a small conflict. (Similar to the Dawn of War games.)

Winner is determined by either surrender or total destruction of the other side. Both sides have 2,000 soldiers.

I don't believe Mrdians have near the level of training Cadians do. Furthermore, the 8th is pretty much composed only of Kasrkin and under the command of one of the most brilliant officer there is. The Mordians don't stand a chance.

In both they're mostly 'normal' infantry, albeit well supported with chimera, sentinals and kasrkin.

Mordians are an incredibly disciplined force and would be a reasonable fight, but the 8th is the veteran cadian unit - a 'generic' mordian unit wouldn't be a fair comparison and I'd expect to see them lose, badly, even if Creed himself wasn't commanding the Cadians. Plus Mordians tend to be infantry formations whilst the Lord Castellan's Own is a mechanised regiment.

Limiting each regiment to only 2000 men isn't really fair - the 8th is (was...) around 8000 strong (Codex: Imperial Guard (3.5 ed.), pg.10).

Which 2000 are we using? What type of regiment is the Mordian?

A Mordian armoured regiment against the 8th's Whiteshields probably isn't going to end well for the Cadians...

Not according to the splash page Lord Damocles references, which shows half the regiment and only about two Chimeras per company.

Assuming similar organizations and levels of support, I'd narrowly give it to the Cadians, assuming they're smart enough to keep the Mordians from pulling their backs-to-the-wall firing line tactics more than once.

I love Mordian Iron Guard but the Cafian 8th would win. Note that the Mordians won't surrender or give ground, Their discipline is legendary. It'll be a loss by complete destruction while taking down as many as they can. No they aren't infantry-only. They aren't mechanized infantry but they are supported by lemun russ tanks. Anyways Cadian 8th will win it. It's the 8th.
