Trying to put together a decent chaos space marine list that won't lose every game. (Dealing with a deathguard opponent that runs a spartan superheavy, sicaran battletank venerator, and a hellforged leviation dreadnought with a pair of gattling array cannons), the rest of the list is 3 units of deathguard with plasma or blight, typhus, sorcerer, 20 pox walkers, and 2 of the elite flamer character models, and the reroll running elite character.

Alpha Legion Battalion
Demon Prince with Wings
Smite, Diabolic Strength
Demon Prince with Wings
Smite, Miasma of Pestilence
Lord Discordant (Flamer)

5 chaos marines 1x Lascannon
5 chaos marines 1x Lascannon
5 chaos marines 1x reaper chaincannon & combi-bolter
Champion with combi-bolter
Slannesh Oblits x 3
5 Havocs w/ 4 x Lascannons
Champion with combi-bolter & 2 x Chain Axe
5 Havocs w/ 4 x Reaper Chaincannons
Champion with combi-bolter & 2 x Chain Axe

Rhino w/ combi-flamer (turn 1 Havocs hide inside)
Rhino w/ combi-flamer (turn 1 Havocs hide inside)

Black Legion Battalion Detachment
Chaos Lord with Jump Pack and Mark of Khorne
2 x Chainswords, 1 x Bolt Pistol, Ghorisvex's Teeth, Flames of Spite
Sorcerer in Terminator Armor and Mark of Slannesh
Intoxicating Elixir, combi-melta (use Coucil of Traitors 1cp - Trusted Warleader)
Smite, Prescience, Warptime
10x Cultists
10x Cultists
10x Cultists

Assuming I won't go first, I'll use prepared positions and the -1 alpha legion trait to survive turn 1, unleash what I got and see how it plays out. First target is the dreadnought, then the spartan tank.

It should be 2000pts on the nose, any suggestions on making the list a bit more well rounded?

Took some suggestions and updated the list.
Added reaper chaincannons for horde control, fleshed out psychic powers and spent the remaining random points for combi-bolters and double chain axes on shooty units that might possibly ever get into combat.)

Superating (sp?) Plate on a DP is a good idea.

Bolter discipline might be better than flamers on the rhinos. Go storm bolters (Twin Bolters) instead?

FAQ killed the bolter discipline on vehicles, can still argue that flamers can be removed for extra combi bolter and havoc missile launchers, I'm thinking about trying both. After turn 1, the havocs leave the rhinos and I'm assuming rhino's won't be a worthy target for the rest of the game, (if they survive t1). Maybe its a waste of points and I should get a 3rd unit of havocs? Too bad vehicles can't move half speed and disembark, but thems the breaks in 8th.

Suppurating Plate is deathguard relic only. Requires playing DG. Main reason for AL is the -1 army wide.

Your havocs could fit inside 1 rhino, so you could drop one to save points - get a dark apostle with benediction of darkness to give the oblits a -2 to hit and keep them alive.

What's your plan for the lord discordant? You don't have any units for him to buff, and if he's for melee then the alpha legion trait wont help, move him into the black legion and consider making him an indomitable warlord or drop him.

Intoxicating elixir is better on one of your prince's, and given the short cast range on warptime consider using a jump sorcerer instead of terminator armour - hiding behind cultists is the better armour anyway.

Not sure if you need 2 Rhinos. You can hide your havocs out of line of sight since they can move and shoot fine. At most maybe you just need 1 Rhino if you want to send the chain cannon havocs up the board in it. (would paint a huge target on it).

You are playing Alpha legion anyway. I would just forward operative the chain cannon havocs up on turn 1 and have them deal the most damage they can turn 1. Once they are in the open, either way, they become a target. So, erm yeah, not sure if the Rhinos are really needed here. You could probably save them and use the points saved for other stuff.
