Does anyone have an excel doc that shows me the price of a proposed list I want to build? Obviously sans paint/tools, but based off boxes of models alone?
For instance, I plug in a list of:
2 shield captains custodes
3 squads of 3x custodes guard
1x squad of 3 allarus term
1 vexhilla (sp?)
total: 300 dollars
My friend wants to price out lists and I don't want to build an excel doc from scratch. Any suggestions or do it from scratch?

I've never seen anything like that, but that is a really interesting idea. Especially if you built in prices as part of bundle box kits.

I found one thing that was setup in 2017 to pull data from the GW website with updated prices etc, but the coding has changed so completely it's unsalvagable.
I'm gonna drop a email to the GW and see if they would do something like this. Because it would really help people plan out the best way to go about building a list from a cost perspective.

Do it from scratch. It'll take ten minutes, tops, to make a template for a 1.5-2k army and it will be eternally useful.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I doubt GW would go for it. Their business model seems to be based in large part on hiding the true cost of 'the hobby'.

Only weird thing is I don't want to include points, power or otherwise, because that would make it an x/y axis, and I am confused enough by excel.
I just want to do a single list breakdown that auto-links to established pages, so I can pull the item costs. Also just realized, GW encrypts (right word?) their website, so I am unable to get into the source code and pull the data lines.
HALP?

You'll have to input the data manually. No way around it on a spreadsheet, sorry. It seriously doesn't take long though.
So, I have one row per unit and one column for battlefield role, one column for unit description, one column for default wargear, one for upgraded wargear, psychic powers, unit (pt) cost, upgrades (pt) cost, sum unit pts cost, power level monetary cost. etc etc. I also keep a track of what units I possess, what units are built and what units are finished.
Then at the bottom, I have a row for sum Faction pts cost, one for CP, one for PL and one for total financial cost. Also a sum function telling me how many points I possess, how many are painted and how big the unit's 'footprint' is.
Your level of anal retentiveness may vary.
Anyway, if you keep a 'master' sheet of point values and monetary prices then you only ever need to edit your master value and the changes will percolate throughout the rest of the document automatically.

I would do it by Power Level, despite how much this triggers folks on the forum, because it's less changeable and the kit boxes actually correspond better to PL than points.
Include 10 marines? 1 kit box. Include a 5-squad and a 6-squad? You need 2 kit boxes. PL will reflect that.
So that way you can build your list in battlescribe or whatever, input the number of PL that you have of each unit, and get a total cost. This is an interesting project!

Except that is not actually true is it? If I want a Deathwatch army, one box does not equate to one squad of guys, unless we go by legs and heads. If I want one squad of good Deathwatch, it will at a min take:
1x box of deathwatch kill team
1x box of SM Terminators
1x box of bikers
1x box of Vanguard Marines
To fully deck out a squad of DW Vets, without going to ebay, it's over $200.
If you want to go say, daemons, it's easier. But anything with Space Maines or Imperial anything, doesn't come with the right parts on the SPRU. Tempestus Scions require multiple boxes two complete a single squad.

Well, what you replied here is a bit of an ask, so I'm going for a simplified version. This is a super rough draft, and I only threw in a page for orks. If some of you enterprising lads would like to create a copy for your own faction, here's what you'd do:
1) Make two new sheets that are copies of "Ork Entry" and "Orks". Rename the sheets to Your faction Entry and Your Faction, and go into columns c and d and change the word "Orks" in the formula line to "Your Faction".
2) Go to the GW website and input the names, and money costs, of the kits they sell for your faction. Go to your codex or favorite listbuilding app and input the power level that you get out of the box (I kept it suuuper simple and decreed that things like a "Mega armor big mek" would require their own 63$ meganobz kit to get)
3) in the "list entry" page, select the unit from the dropdown, manually input the power level of that unit from your list, and it will math you out the number of kits you need and the dollars it will cost. If you get a fraction, you should input more power level to round up to the nearest kit.
4) Grab the data from the cost column for a quick "sum" and input the points value of your list for a rough "Dollars to points ratio". You know, if you like sadness.
My hope here is that the magic of the internet takes my little skellington of a google sheet and adds their gak to it if they want to use it! If you just wreck my sheet though this is just a copy after all.

Thanks! I'm gonna see if I can add tonight!
I love the cost ratio analysis!

From scratch, the "easiest" way to do this (no VBA coding) is to use Power Query changing the source query to text format and point the query at a webstore page url which already has the "show all" button clicked when using the stores filters. This will dump the entire page source into a one column table into your excel book (probably about 5-10k rows depending on faction), you will then have to use a lookup formula like INDEX to find the model specific price (there will be a model name tag in the source, then a few rows below that will be the price).
If you are familiar with those tools it should only take about 15 mins to set up and will be refreshable until GW changes the site layout, if your not familiar there are tons of guides online showing how to set this up.
