Is there a rule specifying which icon must be used for a Banner of Blood? Has there ever been?

The Bloodletter kit comes with 2 icons, one is a banner and one is a Khorne icon dripping with blood. Each of my Bloodletter units is modeled with the banner, not the icon.

Was playing a friendly with someone who is a TO. One of the rules for his tournament is everything must be WYSIWYG. He explained my army would not be tournament legal because I was using the Banner of Blood stratagem on a unit with the wrong banner.

AFAIK, the Banner of Blood has no official icon. Is there something I missed?

From the description in the Codex ("This brass standard constantly drips with blood, the smell of which drives Khorne’s Daemons into an unbridled battle-lust") it sounds like the icon, but I don't remember seeing anything 'official'.

Their house, their made up house rules. WYSIWYG is not a real rule found in the rulebook, so the TO is free to make up whatever definition of WYSIWYG they like. They can declare that WYSIWYG means that all models must be painted pink if they so desire. WYSIWYG has no meaning other than what the TO decides it means, so you have to deal with them and their whims.

Thank you for the responses.

I read through the Codexes going back to 5th and can't find any mention of it. Very confusing.

For the record, I don't plan to enter this tournament. I'm really just concerned about the question of whether GW actually specified an icon to be used for the Banner of Blood.

I can’t help noticing that you’ve managed to use the word “icon” and “banner” interchangeably, and then ask which is which. :(

In the original Chaos Demons codex (circa 2008), both pieces of plastic are called chaos icons without distinction. Specifically, they have a picture of a model carrying the thing with fabric labeled “Bloodletter carrying an Icon of Chaos” and the other one is called a “battle standard”.
Two pages later, the daemonette models call their version of the same thing without fabric an “Icon of Chaos”.

More importantly, Banner of Blood is a strategem. You don’t model strategems, even though it’s chosen before the battle. If you’re concerned about keeping track which unit has the upgraded icon, make a marker of some sort and/or write it down.
