Hello guys,

need a quick explanation of the following: a riptide is behind one side of a wall, and shield drones on the other. The wall is 2 inches thick and 5 inches tall. So, a drone is within 3 inches of a riptide when looking through the wall, but 12 inches across the wall.
So is the drone able to provide cover to the riptide or no? That is, is it within 3 inches or 12 away?

Also, what about auras, do they work through walls?

And last one, imagine this - the same wall, 2 inches thick, you drive a rhino on one side of the wall so that it is touching it. Is it possible to disembark troops carried inside the rhino on the other side of the wall, as they can be disembarked within 3 inches ( and the wall is only 2 inches thick )?

Thanks guys

If you're referring to Saviour Protocols, then you'd still get it even if there's a wall between the Drone and the Riptide.

Auras work through walls.

Disembarking units are set up. You simply place them within 3" of the transport. It doesn't matter if there is a wall.

As the others have said, the wall has no meaning when "disembarking" drones, when using Savior Protocols or when using auras, unless the aura explicitly needs line of sight to work.

Sure you are, if you disembark onto (or embark from) the other side of a wall. You are effectively in game terms teleporting. Totally RAW though.

You are not teleporting. You are, in game terms, setting up.

Which is in this instance a type of teleport move.

^This.

There is not any teleporting. You are setting models up. The static terrain, models, and more importantly rules, do not care is a wall is solid or not. The rules allow you to set up within 3 inches. and Line of Sight is not a factor in this...

It really is not. There is not anything that is a "teleport move" it simply does not exist.

Which is a type of teleport! Why are you so averse to using the term? The models materialise on the other side of a wall, teleport is the general term we use for these sorts of movement.

Because this game is thematic, they assume you are imagining a unit who is disembarking from vehicle to inside building as either climbing through windows, going through doors, or breaching the wall. Thematic. Goodness...

It really doesn’t matter how you describe it. The rules question was “is it legal?” Answer is yes. Job done folks.

No it is not a teleport at all. They never materialize anywhere. A unit in a transport never teleports. They disembark, as per the rules.

Teleport is a specific thing in 40K... Terminators can do it to get onto the battlefield.

The reason people are 'averse' to the term is that you were presenting it as a 'game term' ... which it isn't.

You can think of it as (fluff-wise) teleporting if it helps you sleep at night, but in game terms the models are not teleporting. They're not climbing. They're not burrowing. They aren't moving at all, in any fashion. They are just set up.

All of which is rather beside the point, since what you call it fluff-wise has no bearing on how the rules works, which has been addressed sufficiently by this point. Moving on.
