I was contemplating a modelling project, and one of my thoughts was to create a 40k chaos dwarf army. The gist of it would be that they are the equivalent of adeptus mechanicus but chaos fluffwise, IE they are the creators of terrifying technology from chaotic forge-worlds. The army would be daemon engines, elite troops and slaves for chaff.

Is there any existing fluff for anything like this out there? I know most fantasy armies, even those without actual 40k equivalent armies, have fluff in the background, like beastmen. I know that squats were, well, squatted, but were there ever chaos squats?

I just love the aesthetic of Chaos Dwarves, and the heavy-metal technology they use in fantasy. I thought an army of terrifying daemon engines could be an awesome thing to try and make!

Looks like the older models (as I would expect from that era) are a bit more comedic than I'd like to go for. I'm after more of the sinister darkness that fantasy chaos dwarves have.

I think that this project may be my next one. My current one is to inject some squiggoths into my Orks.

Any thoughts on a "counts as" army that chaos squats would work as? I'm mainly focussing on the daemon engines side of things, less so on the troops. I don't really want them to be power-armour counts-as, so Chaos (which seems the obvious answer) isn't what I'll be using.
