I am not sure if this is Lore or Painting, as I need the lore for painting.
Buy I am I looking for any heraldry lore on Titans. Specifically Legio Gryphonicus, though i will take information on anything at the moment. Something similar to what the Imperial knight households have. Basically what markings/sigils/banners/etc... go where on the Titan. I order a Legio Gryphonicus Transfer sheet, and was wanting to see if that would be enough for a Warhound, Reaver, and Warlord titan.
Any helpful links or images or books would be appreciated. My google fu is just pulling up IK stuff.
Thanks

Each Titan legion kinda does different things (rather it varies, some are more standardized than others)
Based on book 3 of the Horus Heresy black books, Legio Gryphonicus tends to be an overall greyish color with Yellow heads, with various white stripes and/or white/blue checker patterns in various areas depending on the titan. The knee caps tend to be an area (atleast on Reavers) where the blue and white heraldy of the legio is often shown off. The main flags generally are between the legs hung by the groin/hip section, though smaller triangular flags seem to be mounted on the guns and/or the shoulder pads of larger titans. Having said that each banner (if you google the legio you should find good pics- if I took pictures from my book they would be sub-par to what is already online) and the location/type of markings are quite different from titan to titan. One titan may have a quartered blue/white kneecap with a griffon in it while another may have their knee halved in blue/white. One Titan may have white stripes on it's shoulders where another may be checkered.
Essentially paint the base of the Titan grey with a yellow head, maybe a couple more areas of yellow, and then add various stripes/checkers of blue and/or white and that would be plausible. Gryphonicus is particularly noted as being a legion that values individual history and identity (much more like Knights really) so as long as you follow the base color scheme any style of stripes, checkers, etc. would be likely. It is interesting to note Titan legions maintain two types of banners- one for combat and a more elaborate one for showing off. Having said that I think almost every image of a titan has a more elaborate one and not the battle one, other-wise may the Omnissiah watch over us modelers if the fancy ones we see in the books are the simple battle ones...
Meanwhile a Legio like Fureans seems mostly stanardized to being a yellow color with black flame details at the lower end of each flat yellow plate. Some details like the eye of horus (if it's a traitor titan) can vary but there isn't really that many unique markings like a Knight Household or Gryphonicus would have. This also applies for Suturvora but with black with yellow/orange flames
Some legions are somewhere between- Legio Tempestus is mostly blue with some grey-white parts (as in only a couple parts per titan), and most titans have some area with white/black checkering- the location varies but the aesthetic is very much standardized comapred to Praesagius or Mortis, atleast based on the black books I have.
Hopefully this helps!

Ah okay, that gets a bit complicated as there is no standard for how Legio Gryphonicus (or almost all the legios really) uses their decals, unless you wanted to create a titan from a particular image. You can make generalizations but that’s about it unfortunately, as even the symbol they use to denote they are from Gryphonicus IV can vary in how it’s represented. So I suppose the question is do you want to recreate a titan from a source or make your own?

Ill probably just make my own, but i want it to be Legio Gryphonicus. Really just looking for a template like the IK houses on placement. Ill probably use that as a guide and go from there.

Okay in that case I am basing my information from the Horus Heresy black book #3, which has two Reavers and two Warhounds in Legio Gryphonicus colors.
For the Reaver: on the main body carapace where the large Eagle is it has a shield in the middle of the eagle, which has various symbols depicting the Legio (GW proper actually has a legio gryphonicus transfer sheet for some examples of what those symbols look like). In this instance both had the more colorful Gryphon in a yellow circle. The shield itself is white-blue-white striped vertically. The right knee has the Adeptus Titanicus symbol, with the cog half blue/white vertically. the Left Knee is usually some combination of stripes, quartered, etc. of Blue/White with more minor Gryphonicus IV symbols that is unique to the titan. Add in white stripes and/or checkering (blue or white) in a few areas of your choice and you are good to go.
For the Warhounds they have a side view so it is much worse for getting an accurate scheme, but they were mostly the normal grey/yellow head with a symbol on the lower leg plate but I can't quite make out what it is (it is some sort of staff-hammer or axe). They then have the more colorful Gryphon in a yellow circle on the main body carapace, though one had it in the front half and the other the back half.
Hopefully that is enough to help! Checking out the Games Workshop Gryphonicus transfer sheet should hopefully help out.
