I want to deep strike a Vexillus with my unit of Allarus Terminators and i noticed that the allarus version cant get a melee weapon (the thing that makes them scary), while the regular one not only can take the custode's best weapon (the axe) but is slightly cheaper to boot. Basically my question is, is it worth it to spend the command point in order to deep strike (using the strategem) the regular Vexillus to gain a melee weapon and a slight points decrease?

You will get 20 different opinions on this, but I say a CP is easily recovered. But if you are dropping units in through FGTLC, just be warned that Aquillons make better deep Strikers, and cost roughly the same. Allarus don't do much for how much they cost.

I think it depends are whether you are going to use the deepstrike stratagem on something else, I’d pay 1 cp, but probably not 2cp (the second use costs 2cp right?)

It's 1cp/3CP

Another thing to consider is if adding an equal points value of more deepstrikers has the same effect...for example an allarus with the +1 attack banner costs 150 points while 2 more allarus (+8 attacks) cost 160. Same goes for the -1 to hits vs adding more bodies/wounds.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

thats a very interesting point.. it is worth mentioning though that the regular vexillus is just as badass and deadly as an allarus terminator so theres that

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I have no idea why the Allarus Praetor doesn't get a real melee weapon. Its really bizarre. I would always go with the regular dude in that case.

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

GW have this misguided policy with their new kits, that they won't make rules for models which have to be converted or kitbashed. Because the weapons for the Allarus are always held in the same hand as the banner, you would have to convert or find another weapon from a different kit to be WYSIWYG, which is a no-no for some reason.

The normal Custodian kit is also the same, however you can build a normal Vex Praetor from the Warden kit with both a weapon and the banner, so it is represented as such in the rules. Definitely preferable to use the normal one.
