Hi everyone!

Let's say I've got a warboss with a shoota, and this warboss stands behind a big unit of 30 boyz, right in the center, and in front of them there are some enemy marines. The boyz are not in a tight formation, in fact, their formation is loose. They are still in a coherention, but they spread as wide as possible. And let's say, that I can actually draw a line of sight through the gap in their lines - from the warboss to the enemy. Can I actually shoot marines in this case (using my warboss)? My friend believes that yes, cause they are in a line of site, and I think I can't, cause all this is a little bit unrealistic. Hope somebody will help!

If you can draw an uninterrupted line from the shooting model to the target model, from anywhere to anywhere, you can shoot it.

40k uses Binary True Line of Sight. With the exception of your own unit (i.e. For the purposes of determining visibility, a model can see through other models in its own unit), Line of Sight works by drawing an uninterrupted line from any part of your model to any part of the target model. It doesn't matter if you can see 100% or 1% of the target model, it's a simple yes or no.

In your example, they can shoot though the Boyz squad just fine.

To be absolutely clear, you can literally fire between the legs of a model if it will give you clear LOS from any point of your model to any part of the target model.
