Say you had $50 to spend, which contrast paints would come in handy the most?

Easy question to me; the black and the yellow for sure as the #1&2 choices.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Anything that does flesh, and once you touched that up with a slightly lighter highlight, I think it might give a great finish.

The only thing I'm actually considering getting though is the yellow, for doing a quick shaded stripe on Tsons headbands to touch up with a highlight.

Anything else is gonna be context dependant, but I don't really think there's any other use I'm going to have for it, though a few years ago would have been a different story. Might see if the grey works on my Nids without clashing too heavily with my already established scheme, but you know how it goes.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I recently used some of the hexwraith flame paint and judging by the results I am really excited for the contrast.

Yellow and brown would be my #1-4(2 of each) then blue & green. at some point I will probably get all of them to add to my paint arsenal.

Seem to be out of Black Templar on the UK site, in that case I'll just wait until they're in stock elsewhere for the discount.

That's my problem. These paints look great but since it requires a completely different approach to painting I don't think it'll fit with any of my 4 existing armies and I'm not planning to start a new one any time soon. If I do I'll definitely give the Contrast range a try.

£5 a bottle seems a little crazy for me. I'm going to stick with my old collection and use the $50 to buy my weeks food.

What will be the best for a black primary with blue undertone tau army?
Very similar to the jaeger scheme from pacific rim

Talassar blue because I absolutely love the color, Blood Angel Red so I can skip a bunch of steps in painting cloaks/tabards/etc, Warp Lightning Green because it's a really nice color and there's a ton of cool stuff you can do with a florescent green, Black Templar because black is universally useful, and probably Snakebite Leather because it makes really good leather effects AND can make a very pretty brass look over metallics.

Fortunately for me, with SoB coming out Soon(TM), I'll be starting an entirely new army after I've had time to experiment with the paints and get used to them a bit.

I'm thinking 2 layers of the Black Templar over either Grey Seer or a Metallic for the armor(it creates this really neat 'Laquered/Polished' effect that would look great on SoB armor) and Blood Angels red for the Cloaks of my 'Order of Our Martyrd Lady' and Talassar blue over Zenithal-ed Wraith Bone for the armor and Warp Lightning Green for the Cloaks on my 'Order of the Fulminating Fury'(Monster Hunter theme starts to play in the background).

With SoB armor being a lot better..I mean nicer...I mean superior...I mean more detailed than Space Marine power armor, the contrast paint should work beautifully.

Basically I'd use them for anything I wanted painted to a tabletop standard, just like what they are advertised as - surprisingly that's probably how they are going to be best used. And being that I don't plan on painting any army to just tabletop standard, I probably won't be using them at all.

I'm spending more than $50 on the new paints:
Ultramarines Blue and Black Templar are going on my 30k Marine army, used directly over Leadbelcher spray and Ironbreaker/Stormhost Silver highlights.

Blood Angels red for my Cadians, perhaps also my Kasrkin and Starfleet Marines if it turns out good. I'm also getting Wraithbone to layer over the Grey primer I used before learning about Contrast paints.

Each of the Blue and Turquoise colors to experiment with and find an easier way to do sky blue besides multiple layers of Caledor Sky and then multiple layers of Teclis.

Apothecary white for helmets and Clone Troopers for Legion.

Snakebite leather for leather and brass.

And the fleshtones to experiment with.

I played around with them @ the WH store today and am thoroughly impressed. I brought my Dark Apostle to see what I could do with the yellow/orange/reds on the flames emitting from the book & candelabra on his backpack.

I have a new way to do painted sculpted flame. The colors wet blend well but if you are doing a small area it tends to dry too quickly. the guy next to me was basically trying all of his color schemes on a intercessor it looked very interestingly coloured when he was done.

Fosho will get more of the range than I had initially thought. If anyone does standard cadians the militarum green is basically one coat done guardsmen.

Skelly hoard over waithbone. Its perfect for bones, skulls, natural looking carpaces etc and gully flesh just a good all round flesh shade. If using a lot of it the yellow is good over the grey base.
