Hi there,
I'm having some issues with my paint/wet pallette.
I've not painted in a few years but not had this issue before. Please see attached photo.
The paint has an odd consistency regardless of how much I thin it. It doesn't seem to adhere to the primed mini. It also occasionally rubs off the surface after it has dried?
I've tried using both sides of the baking paper.
Any help is very much appreciated!
Edit: Forgot to mention they are Citadel Paints, also happened with some Vallejo Model Air. The cream paint was the first coat on a freshly primed mini. The red paint was a test.
Thanks

Only thing i can think of is that the paint is not suitable / good for painting plastic? Are you using Canvas acrylic paints?, because they are no good on plastic from my experience.

That looks like grease/oil possiblely from fingers on the surface as model paints ive tried have had that happen on a gloss base.

Try washing the models with some soap and water, then rinse with water so all the soap is taken off, and try again with the paint. If its resin you are trying to paint, then that definitely needs to be washed (, not 100% sure, but im pretty sure FW resin does ) before painting because it has some sort of residue on it from when it was taken out of the mold at the factory.

1. What material is the mini? If resin has it been washed from any potential mold release agent?
2.. What primer are you using and what colour?
3.. Have you really really shaken the paint? Is it a basecoat paint or layer? have you tried a thicker mixture?
4... How humid/hot is it where you paint? Are you suing the waxy side of the paper in the pallet facing upwards? Is there enough moisture in the bottom of the palette?
5. How long have you dried it for before handling ?

The way it looks in the picture it almost looks like wax paper and not the correct paper for a wet palette (which is baking parchment or something like that)?
However you said the paint isn't adhering the model which is weird - what have you primed with?

Indeed. Its possible if the paper is wrong way round that would really mess with the paint properties.

He said he tried both sides, but maybe it's the wrong stuff? I dunno. Weird.

NOw im freaking out wondering if i used the waxy type of paper on every thing i have already painted...I never knew there was a specific side to use. gak i dont even know if its the right type of paper, its the stuff you cook on so it doesnt stick.
So potentionally all my models have this wax crap mixed in with the paint....

No you should be fine.
It's more of an issue that if the paper is facing the wrong way, the sort of osmosis effect doesn't work properly. So the moisture might be sapped away from the paint throught he paper rather than keeping the paint hydrated.
I used to use the kitchen baking paper stuff one and it it works really well. You can buy some special membrane paper which is basically the same thing.
I'm on my third wet palette now personally(been using the home made ones for years then cheap on off amazon, and now an expensive one from red-grass).
I'm on a quest to find the best set up for myself. So far there is very little in terms of performance if you do the home made one right.
