I have been a long time lurker of this site, and I am finally ready to move on from my beloved Warhammer Fantasy to another game. I have Age of Signar, but I can't seem to sink my teeth into it, because it killed all of my beloved armies and lore. I have picked up Kings of War to scratch that itch now.

While playing Kings of War I was introduced to the amazing Vanguard system. I love this system, but my area has no support for it. The local store plays mostly Games Workshop games and a few of us play KoW. This created a unique space for me to give GW another chance.

I see they have several "Skirmish" level games and I am curious to try one, but am lost on which to pick up. A few of the options I have seen beening played locally are Kill Team, Necromunda, Frostgrave, LotR Battle Companies, and Shadspire. I have also seen people playing 40k with only a handful of miniatures. I wasn't aware that this was even an option. Are any of these deep enough to warrant a purchase? Do you reccomend any over the others?

Price is not my main concern, but longevity of the game and overall growth within the game as well. I am willing to give a few a chance, but not sure where to even begin.

Kill Team is excellent and doing extremely well.

Shadespire is also excellent but is very different from GW's other games. Forces are fixed (you just pick a faction and there is no choice of unit within that faction) but there is an extensive deck building element. It's half boardgame, half LCG.

Necromunda finally has all of the core gangs out and has the rules mostly in order but it's a campaign game first and foremost.

Shadespire is a board and card game and not a typical miniature game, but if your into that its also a fantastic game. But because its heavily reliant on building a deck of cards it can be a bit of a hassle to introduce to players new to these kinds of games.

But it really is a fantastic game, cheap to start and quick enough that you can get games in no matter what time constraints you might have.

There is a digital adaptation of the game coming later this year.
