Hi

I've been looking around at carry cases and while partly getting confused at the range I thought it best to ask here (if this is the wrong forum please tell me and I'll move it to another one).

Basically I have my chaos units from Shadowspear that I would like to store and I'm looking for a suitable carry case.
Currently I own a KR case full of nids (which I'm a fan of) but would like a new one for the marines. Ideally spending less as KR tends to be rather expensive.

What do people use/recommend?
Of particular notes that I keep considering.
How to hold the Venomcrawler (I'm less of a fan of the "pull out" foam sets, I've got some for my large monsters and they tend to annoy me from an optimisation/stability stand point).
What tray size do I need for Primaris sized units (the new chaos marines).
Price (Battle foam as I find are GW is generally too expensive)

Thank you for any response.

Well its not cheaper, but i use battlefoam for all my to-game-store transportation. I generally buy Feldherr for boxed games though. But if you're looking for cheap, nothing beats just magnets and a metal box. Just make sure the magnets are secured well and are strong ones.

My general philosophy though is that models and my painting time are both valuable, so the investment in battlefoam is worth it.

I love Battlefoam. Its sturdy, and I've never had it break or let me down and I have cases and foam from them about a decade old, and they have held up well.

That said, they also are expensive, and they don't deliver quickly.

At times, needing some stuff quickly, I've bought some Feldherr. I don't feel the quality is as good, but its generally next day delivered from Amazon.

Also I think in some use cases, Feldherr has the superior product, but that is for board games like Argonak mentioned.

Thanks for the response. I'll give a look around and good point on the time investment.

I'll also check out Feldherr

After getting a few KR Multicase things, I now swear by Feldherr.

In the UK you can get them from Element Games (Stockport) and Dark Sphere Games (London) for a lot cheaper than from the supplier, although you will get a small wait for delivery.

Interestingly feldherr foams also nicely fit into the "Really Usefull" boxes, especially the 21 litre one... it's almost exact. They're robust, stackable and good value. KR and Battlefoam are slightly different dimensions, but will fit too. I get 6 to 8 half size foams into one box, which is enough for a 1,500point chaos army with space for a few extras etc.

I bought Feldherr as my first carry box for my island of blood minis, though I had to alter the foam everything fit just fine (minus the griffon) and I still have the box today and use it. I would suggest not getting the cardboard box which is what I did due to issues with the handle and the noticeable damage, granted the box has held up through heavy use.

I have 2 battlefoam cases I got 2nd hand and those are great! They fit minis just right and have extra storage for books/dice/tape measure. They also include deeper foams for the bigger models. I quite like battle foam and would say it’s worth the investment even at full price.

I haven't built them yet but I have magnets, steel, and some plastic storage boxes I plan to make transports out of, seems easy and was fairly cost effective. Should hold my 3k+ points of Ogre Kingdom, and would be ideal for the Venomcrawler since it has those fragile spikes.

I do also have a tackle box I use for my older chaos marine models, a few HQs, bikes, cultist, and whatever else. I put foam in the bottom and it works great for transporting vehicles. You have to be observant with how you close it but it works just fine and hasn’t damaged the models anymore than anything else, though I am quite careful with it.

I second that about the cardboard boxes. I got one and it was a waste of time really. They're meant to be just storage to put stuff in and not to carry around though... like I said I prefer "really useful" boxes to actually take stuff around. ~£6 for a really good, sturdy box works well. I'm sure you could put a baking tray or something on the bottom for magnetising your bases etc too.

Yeah I got the cardboard due to being inexperienced and cheap. Live and learn. I do not regret getting it but knowing what I know now I would have just invested in their synthetic carry case, even for storage.

My dad has a huge sheet of roofing shingle he gave me since he didn’t need it and I’ve looked at the price and it isn’t expensive, but even a cooking tray with some depth that is metal could work for magnetizing.

My fantasy friends just put their armies in cardboard trays. My friend who plays 40k uses plastic storage boxes with foam and tackle box trays. The quest for the perfect storage/transport for models is never ending.
