...I'm feeling a bit down atm. Fibro stuff. So I'm getting into KT like how I got into planted tanks, I'm going in. Feeling burnt out tho. My heads mashed by all the amazing possibilities. I've played 7 games with my DW and only just recently won my first game, I'm not sure how to take my KT to the next level. I started out with veterans, then moved on to Intercessor 's and now I've added a terminator. I'm toying with the idea of trying out a vanguard veteran dual wielding pistols of some sort, but that seems folly because I'm trying to weed out the veterans and go full primaris. Not sure if a primaris would even fit a jump pack.

The other night I was sat at my table wanting to do something and in the end all I achieved was snipping out the primaris librarian and dry fitting it to see how it went together. Not happy, I started imagining kit bashing it to try and make use of the lovely cloak. Maybe make a primaris chapter master for some homebrew chapter i haven't even thought about properly yet and use him as a captain, I don't know. I got fed up when I realized I don't have enough bits to play around with. So I'm feeling stuck for what to do next since I'm not feeling DW. Is jumping around to a different army the answer?

I would want to keep it imperium since I think they have the best license for converting. Tau are cool and I would enjoy painting them but the hooves for feet kill it for me. My fresh ideas that come to mind are iron hands space marines, since I'm currently reading Eye of medusa and "The flesh is weak" is how I'm feeling atm. I'm iffy in trying to pull it off though because the lack of significant left hand bionics. Your not a iron hand without it. The only 2 that I know of is the space marine commander Chainsword and the hellblaster pistol arm. Obviously the upgrade pack, I would only want it for the legs and heads. There's also a pure scout KT or a pure jump pack KT, they would be cool. Any inspiration will be appreciated.

I'll leave it at that.

One of the nice things about KT is that you can have many different KTs for less than the cost of a single 2k point 40k army. I can't think of too many KT players who don't have multiple teams, so don't regret that. DW are pretty good in vanilla KT, but not necessarily amazing, and struggle a wee bit in Arena (as do all Elites).

If you want a cheap, fun (but one dimensional) KT, you can pick up a single box of Harlequins. With the right loadout you can have a decent 100 point list.

To be honest, though, if you want to be any good at KT you do need a solid 20 model roster which gives you choices depending on who you play, and the same would go for Harlies. But you can still experiment with smaller groups.

Eldar are rock solid, but very pricey if you want a good roster (1 box Dire Avengers, 1 box guardians, 2 boxes storm guardian sprues, 1 box Howling Banshees will do it at a minimum).

IG are very solid, especially with Elites out, but you'll have to order a ton of plasma guns special (I think either Forge World or GW sell them, though), and a few boxes too.

Custodes are terrifying because you can have three of them at 33 points each when they should be close to 50 points each. They are doing surprisingly well in Arena too, because one custodes can usually seem to take and hold an objective against lots of badguys.

Regular space marines, using the Salamander sub faction tactic, are decent, but you'll need scouts, sniper scouts, tactical box, intercessor box and maybe a reiver box to be decent. I'm still noodling in my head on how to make them tournament competitive, but not coming up with much. If you limit yourself to just scouts or just jump packs you'd really be gimping yourself.

On a fundamental level, you seem unhappy with only winning one out of seven games. I would suggest you try for something more competitive rather than fluffy to change your luck. I have no problem with fluffy lists (they can be tons of fun), but they are dependent on who you are playing.

My two cents, your mileage may vary.

Cheers!

Never mind those filthy xenos, IG are the most different faction to DW while still being imperium.

Plasma and melta guns aren't a problem, GW sells them in packs of 5 and you can convert flamer and grenade launcher arms (you get two pairs of each in a box of 10 guardsmen) for guardsmen or any arms for scions (although you do need an empty left hand - most people use marine bolter arms, any marine player has piles of these spare so they are easy to acquire).

To make a bare bones team you'd want a box of guardsmen and a box of scions. A second box of guardsmen and a box of ogryns fills out all of your options.

Seven games isn't a lot to learn a new faction, never mind a new game. With any new game you should expect to lose a lot while you're learning unless you're just playing with someone else that's learning as well.

I'm trying to not give up on DW because there so dam cool. I do think I need to mix it up and try out a different army tho.

Here's the plan. Use DW as my fluffy fairy tale KT, make them all abstract chapters and proper niche out on 3d shoulder pads, get some background together, take my time and get a decent roster and have a second different KT on the go that can handle most opponents without much hastle. In theory it sounds good.

As for what I fancy getting well a single box of Harlequins fits my budget nicely, definitely worth considering to add to the fun. Next up is IG but only the Tempestus Scions since the cadians are really dated and the scions seem better for converting options. The hot shot volley gun has me interested 24" heavy 4 ap-2 seems like a winner. And you can 4 gunners so 4 of those guns seems nasty against marines. Against anything tougher like you suggested probably melts or plasma would be better. Saying that tho it's up in the air for me, because I prefer things with more wounds\shots because it's basically giving you more chances and less chance to screw up.

That's what I'm thinking.

Scions only sucks pretty hard. You give up half of your upgrade weapons in return for some pretty mediocre filler models (basic scions). Why settle for four volley guns when you could have four volley guns and four plasma guns?

If you don't like cadians there are loads of 3rd party guard models. Victoria in particular have a great variety but are a touch on the pricey side. Anvil have a distinct aesthetic that doesn't fit quite as well with guard (YMMV as to whether that's a pro or a con) and are a bit cheaper. Even just a head swap can freshen up the cadian models.

I take it you mean use 4 scions gunners, 3 special weapons squad guardsmen and 1 guardsmen gunner? Would a that even be a viable KT? I haven't worked out the points, I just quickly looked it up to see how I was ment to get so many special weapons.

Regarding splicing them up I would use the skull mask one for my officer guy

Standard guard KT is 8 gunners, sarge and vox guy. Powerfist tempestor is a common optional extra.

8 plasma guns (plus bearers) is 84pts.
