Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!
|
Hey guys! I wanted to do a background post for my Guard project and see what everyone else has come up with for their factions.
Excuse the mediocre paint job! I'm currently just doing test models
The Beroghast Snow Soldiers:
In the late 900s m41, the feral ice-world of Beroghast was attacked by a large Ork Waaagh! and only defeated with the help of the Grey Knights, who the feral nativels thought of as their steel saviors.
At the dawn of the 42nd Millenium, the Orks had returned, in greater number with more Dakka.
The Cadian 411th Rifle Division and the Cadian 332nd Tank Division, as well as elements of the imperial navy and a Single Shadow Sword were deployed on the planet in an attempt to protect the factories that were so critical in producing Leman Russ Battle tanks. (I know it's a feral world, but canonically it has factories)
The fighting was intense, but the Orks were on the back foot, when the worst news imaginable reached Beroghast. Cadia had fallen.
After a short period of mourning, The soldiers resumed fighting, with more fury and zeal than ever, and when the Orkoid menace was finally defeated the Cadians awaited orders to take to the skies and find a new front to avenge lost Cadia. The order never came.
Weeks passed and the orders never came.
The cadians quickly made preparations to turn Beroghast into a base of operations. Within a year, the frozen feral world of Beroghast was covered in cadian walls and filled with cadian soldiers.
Over time, as the cadians began to age and the skirmishes with various xenos and chaos forces intensified on the surface of their new world, The command elements made a snap decision, they would raise new regiments from the native populations, and using the materials and STCs on the world, they would be able to reinforce their armored divisions as well.
It has been 193 years since Cadia fell, and the Beroghast Snow Soldiers have gained some renown, continuing the legacy of their Cadian progenitors, they wear the symbol of lost cadia on their left shoulders as a reminder of what the forces who oppose the God-Emperor have done, and will do if the snow soldiers ever end their watch. Painting their helmets red in honor of the blood of the cadians who died protecting their world, and painting their armor White like the snows of their home, they have become a powerful and easily recognizable force, although lacking in command and division, they make up for it in sheer ferocity and gun power, hearkening back to the crusade forces of the original imperial army from 10,000 years ago.
So what is your regimental story? What worlds are they from? I'm really excited to hear what you've come up with.

The 402e Régiment Cadien Polyvalent is all around regiment located in the Ursus sector, south of Cadia. Apart from drawing it's coutless recruits, armour, missiles, aircrafts... from it's own furnaces, it is also charged with re conditioning "unadequate" soldiers, both physically and psycholigically. Since the reatments the victims undergo to make them fit and brainwashed are much borderline, the regiment was assigned his own sector and camouflaged with the label "Cadian".
After the regiment rebelled on the guiding of possessed psykers who made it through all security protocoles to have almsot 75% of the regiment turn their backs on their brothers, the Ursus system was engulfed into a civil war from which loyalists enventually emerged victorious, having kept their hands tightly gripped on the industrial complexes that gave them aircrafts and tanks to overwehlm the enemy's superior numbers. They were led by the current leader of the regiment, the "Camarade Commissaire" who's true name has been eclipsed by this titel. Today he only, and the Contremaîtres who he has personnally teached the art of "reconditionning" are able to carry out the regiment's secret mission.
The regiment wages war in nearby sectors that are deemed to be part of his "rayon de projection". It relies on a vareity and number of troops, tanks, aicrafts, and even few ships and submarines it can deploy on its own.
Given the local enfluence the regiment benefits of, it is very often ushered by regiment from nearby planet who join in the fighting somethimes not on the derpartemento munitorum's behalf, but of the 402e's, such as the Kallen infantry or the Aoch artilery crewmen.
As a side note: recently I also came of imagining a rare type of regiment... A Signals Regiment! I've also keyboardbashed a few other planets and their regiment when I had nothing better to fill my life with but which are not "my" regiment.

(mine in still a work in progress, but here is what I have so far)
2nd Thoth
The regiment hails from the desert world of Thoth, which was brought into the imperial fold during the Macharius crusade. Back then, the planet was mainly controlled by psykers and chaos worshippers. During the invasion the Tallarn desert raiders under their captain Al'Raheem made contact with indigenous tribes which called themselves the N'Go and who also struggled against the "evil witches" and their followers. Tribal warriors and imperial guardsmen fought side by side until finally the generals leading the crusade decided that more drastical methods were necessary. The Tallarn desert raiders and their N'Go allies were evacuated together with probes of flora and fauna and the planet was virus bombed. Afterwards both factions were allowed to resettle the desert world together. (so far the official Information on Thoth). During the Macharius heresy, Thoth remained loyal to the Imperium instead of any single general, which was helped by the fact that beeing only recently resettled and practically a barren desert, the planet was not really of great interest.
The tribesman had preserved a deep spiritual believe of the great sky father, his angles and oracles, which was further strengthened and rekindled by the events of the crusade. Figthing a hopeless fight against the overwelming powers of the evil witches they had witnessed their prayers to the great skyfather beeing heard. They had seen migthy ships falling from the sky, their tribal tallarn brothers joining them in the hour of need and the power armoured sons of their god walking amongst them. And when the skyfather had decided that the evilness of the witches was so strong, that the planet had to be cleansed, he had saved the faithful N'Go who had never strained from his path. More or less forgotten about by the imperial authorities, the tallarn settlers returned to a more tribal and feudal lifestyle which matched a lot whith that of the N'Go and interaction between both populations lead them to incorporate a quite similar religious believe.
When finally, after some generations passed, Thoth again gained the attention of the Imperium, the first regiment was drafted and send as a tithe to fight the war of the emperor. But they were not ready. Send of to fight a war which they did not understand under the leadership of astra militarum commanders they did not respect, disciplinary problems were manyfold. This was not helped by the fact, that the commissars controlling the regiment had some problems differentiating between a feinted retreat to prepare a trap and desertation leading to a great number of executions and a further drop in morale. In the end Thoths first regiment was destroyed on some far away world. While the authorities were underwhelmed by their performance and wanted to include further Thoth regiments only as cannon fodder, the ecclasiarchy priests and missionaries immediatly realized the potential of Thoths religion and carefully steered it in a productive direction.
Astropaths were send to Thoth and quickly rose to the position of revered oracles, priests visited the tribes and united them under "god send" commanders and the missionary in charge called in some favors to find more... patient commissars. The word spread, that the evil witches of the old stories told at the fire place were still at large on other planets and that the first regiment drafted on Thoth had failed the skyfather when fighting them. But in his grace and forgiveness, their god granted them another chance to redeem their fallen brothers and repay their deeds. When finally the great skyships arrived again to collect "Terra's Due", they were greated by cheering and praying crowds. Lead by their Missinionary now known as "Al'Abu" countless proud warriors of the tribes borded the transports - the best and worthiest, that Thoth had to offer - eager to do the work of the skyfather and wash away the shame of their first regiments failure.
The regiment behaves on the large like a normal tallarn regiment and prefers moving at great speed to perform hit and run attacks, ambushes, outmaneuver the enemy and has shown itself especially useful as some kind aggressive scouting regiment. Due to this figthing style they prefer fast moving infantry, rough riders, sentinels, tauros and other light to medium vehicles while often lacking heavier armour like artillery and heavy tanks. So far they have only proven themselves against smaller heretic and renegade forces and time will show, if they will be able to use their second chance.

Thanks, I assume it migth not really be grimdark enough for Warhammer 40k, but it is what I imagine. I think it will be really interesting, when their idealistic view of the Imperium faces reality and is put to the test against more than some mere heretics and renegades.

Or when their spiritual frenzy is manipulated by chaos, somehow. Which is often led by said delusion.
