Hey all,
So I'm working on a list trying to cram Mortarion in with Blight Lords and other expensive things. In turn, my main battalion is a mixed HERETIC ASTARTES battalion using both a Death Guard Prince and a CSM Prince.
Now the only other detachment is a Death Guard Super Heavy Auxiliary Detachment. From my reading of the rules, this lets me get access to the DEATH GUARD strats but not the CSM ones right?

The HERETIC ASTARTES detachment will unlock the CSM Strats, and the Super Heavy Auxiliary will unlock the Death Guard ones.

If it was an Auxiliary Support you would not unlock Stratagems, but the Super Heavy Auxiliary is an entirely different detachment.

Ok so in your heretic astrarties detatchments I'm pretty sure you cant have him be a death guard daemon prince.

If you take a astarties detatchments you get astarties strata, take a death guard you get death guard starts.

Im like 90% positive you can't take a death guard daemon prince in a Heretic detatchments

To many unpainted models to count.

So the faction keyword is HERETIC ASTARTES that both Chaos Space Marines, Death Guard and Thousand Sons all have in common. That means I can take them in a mixed detachment, much like Imperial players can take a Supreme Command detachment with a Rune Priest, Dark Angels Librarian and a Blood Angels librarian. They don't get chapter tactics or whatever. Additionally a mixed detachment like that doesn't unlock any one books strategems if I'm not mistaken.

My question was aimed at if having a Super Heavy aux detachment does in fact get me the Death Guard strats.

The exact wording in the Death Guard book will tell you this for sure. You're looking for the paragraph explaining how the Stratagems are unlocked.

Then it looks like I'm okay. Auxillary Support is not the same as Auxillary Super Heavy. Thanks!

Correct, they are completely unrelated detachment types.

Half right. The Super Heavy Aux. will unlock Death Guard Strats, but the Heretic Astates one won't unlock CSM strats because they're tied to the <LEGION> keyword, not HERETIC ASTARTES.

This is correct. In order to unlock stratagems it needs to be a "Chaos Space Marine Detachment". A detachment with DEATH GUARD and <LEGION> units is not a "Chaos Space Marine Detachment".

Oh yes of course.
