Land Speeders. Anyone still take them and if so, what weapon loadout have you found that works best for them

Generally not great as most of the weapon options are Heavy with no means to negate the -1 to-Hit when moving. If you want mobile firepower, Inceptors are generally better as they can move and fire without penalty.

Speeders are just rather lacklustre for their points.

Which is quite sad because Land Speeders are cool. You can make them work, but they basically need to sit far back and shoot Missiles are the enemy. At that point, you could just use Devastators and be roughly as durable.

Eldar Vypers are in the same boat, but at least they have the option to take an Assault Weapon, so they are far more viable that Speeders, but even they are outshined by War Walkers that can take 2 of any heavy weapon and have a 5++

But the real issue with Land Speeders, IMO, is an overall issue with the Marine Heavy Weapons selection. Why do they all HAVE to be Heavy weapons?
Shouldn't an Assault Cannon be....Assault? And Heavy Bolters could EASILY be Rapid Fire 2 instead of Heavy 3.
Changing up a few weapon types would open up so many more options to Marines in general, including Land Speeders, Tactical, etc

Sorry m'dude, that Strat doesn't work on a scorpius. Wish it did, would be cool and make speeders kind of viable.

To be honest even just not being taxed twice for BS 3+ would be a start.

But if primaris has taught me anything it's the GW can't find design space for marines and has to give them gimics to make them viable.

There is a slight nod for Ravenwing Land Speeders. Aside from from the excellent characters, Ravenwing landspeeders in the Vigilus detachment can offset the hvy weapon with the use of the Signal the Attack strategem. I do have a regular HB/AC speeder plus a Typhoon. Wouldn't mind one or two more typhoons, but they're not great.

I used three land speeders as one unit with twin heavy flamers, with good results against hordes. 20" movement is good for bringing them into 8" flamer range, and 6D6 autohits is quite devastating. They arent to big, getting cover for them inside terrain is not to hard.
