Hey guys,

Looking forward for some advice of more experienced players.

I come back to CSM after a long hiatus and try to make the best out of the following list.

The list is based on models I already own or want to own (looking at you Havocs and Oblits...) and some advice I read in the tactics thread.

Now to the questions: Which Legion trait would support this list and which HQs should I choose? What would you add to come to 1500 points and to 2000 points?

Also general C&C would be welcome!

So the first draft:

Chaos - Chaos Space Marines 1,180pts

Hey man welcome back to csm they've never looked so good

I think for a csm gunline you can't beat Alpha Legion. I think the list is fairly solid. You need some psychic support death hex, prescience and warptime are all worth squeezing in and reroll 1s is handy. So a slanesh daemon prince with elixir and a jump oack sorcerer would be a decent choice.

Really you aught to have a blob of 30 cultists to screen the main part of your gunline in place of a unit of csm. But I could understand if you didn't want to buy and paint 30 of them.

If you wanted to get up to 2000 then I'd add a third oblit and maybe some combibolter/chainaxe termies would be good. You could add a jump pack lord with blade of the hydra for some extra rerolls and anti charge stuff.

As above stated, alpha legion is made for gun line but it’s the defensive trait, if you want more aggressive shooty list you can go “the purge” from vigilus. It let you reroll failed hit roll if the enemy unit you shooting at has lost a wound earlier this turn.

The purge is for nurgle only so no shooting twice sadly and if I’m remembering right, no use of veteran of the long war as this legion trait is a renegade trait.


Try alpha at first and maybe the purge later if you want.


As for HQs, a DP and a Lord mostly for the reroll but as well for counter charge. If you got points left over, add screening units.
If my quick math is correct you should have close to 70points left.

Further add ons later up to 2k list.
More shooting and screens or go for a big threat like zerkers moving up charging or some Daemon engines.

Honestly i find the Scourged better for a gunline, especially if you intend to hid lascannons all over the place.

There are three marks of Slaanesh there. Better get the pink paint out and go Emperors Children. The fluff has spoken!!

Or rather don't because the traits meh and their codex is around the corner and considering how much better DG and thousand sons are compared to regular csm you would be better to wait.
