I don't know about these boxes. For instance, the SM box is just, bland. Good savings, but who needs 30 intercessors and a Redemptor? At least the Light Elves got a new unit. The Necron box looks like fun.

They're built around Apocalypse where units stick around a bit longer, which makes intercessors and other units more attractive.

And they're perfect for anyone jumping into the hobby that wants a whole detachment for relatively cheap money.

If I didn't just buy 2 start collecting boxes I would jump on the tau deal. Pretty solid base for someone just getting started

except all the boxes only give 1 HQ, so you can't even make a BN.

Detachment rules for Apoc have not been released yet. You have no idea what you need to slot into them.

That is true, however I doubt any "jumps into" apoc. Considering it's based around extremely large point armies, 5-10k if I'm not mistaken? That is well beyond a first timer level.

I was referring to the first time hobbyist, getting into 1-2k level 8th edition battles.

Maybe but with the money saved it's not a bad place to start. using space Marines as an example ehre,

snag the box and a Primaris Librarian and you've got a battalion for just over 200 USDs. which is pretty solid, heck snag 2 more HQs (we'll say a captain and anbother Libby) nd for 275 bucks you;ve got 2 basic bare bones battalions of primaris Marines.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Good point. The SM box does have the highest savings...

Someone did all the math, and the boxes are 100 pounds, with a value of 145 to 170 pounds depending on army.

Much like the annual Christmas Battleforces, they're a solid deal. Moreso from an online retailer (with an additional 15% and free shipping).

The days of the big eBay sales are gone or you could get it for even better.

Who needs 30 CSM and 6 bikes ? Thats ok in a normal 40k game, but in an apoc game ?? The AM box is the only one which makes sense to me.

Interesting that they list "Canoptek Spiders" when they are actually "Canoptek Wraiths." I mean, I understand wanting to be the first to break a story, but doing just a little research to get model names correct seems like a no brainer.

Infantry seems more interesting in Apoc. I wouldn't balk at that box had I not already bought 30 of the new CSM. Though if it's the multipart kit I just might get it anyway...

For Orks a Rokkit is no better versus Marines than a Big Shoota is. There are no armor mods.

Infantry might actually be playable in apoc, because in regular 40k it's just annoying to have to roll for them individually. Going squad by squad when you have 200 Guardsmen would just take forever. In Apoc, if you have big ass movement trays for them at like 50 at a time, it could be pretty awesome.

Yeah I'm a little bummed about that Chaos box. I'd have held off on buying the new CSMs if I knew I could get free bikes with them!

At that price and with an online discount, some of these will be hard to pass up.

My stupid question is:
What the hell do these boxes have to do with Apoc?
In Apoc games so far I played super-heavies and tanks, but not weakly infantry.

Quite tempted by the Knights box. Basically the two helverins are free?

Seems like new Apoc is more built around the concept of Detachments as the basic unit of battle, rather than just as a game that allows you to pile all your really expensive/massive models onto the board. So you activate entire Detachments at once, which may be a whole bunch of infantry or 1-3 superheavies. From a more mercenary/corporate standpoint it wouldn't surprise me if these box sets were at least partially created in order to shift a bunch of old stock GW is trying to clear out. The bikes in the Chaos Space Marine set kind of stand out as a weird option, for example.

Seconded, after watching the smart Becca Scott.
A 20 men Warrior unit can be quite durable with 4 wounds each.
How about the length of an Apoc game in terms of hours?
So far, we played Apoc as a multiplayer game. But now I would play it more like a one vs. one game.

No idea yet, but given that they stripped out a lot of fiddly stuff like armor mods, invulns, and S to T checks it should go quite a bit faster than the usual large battle. Tonsof dice rolling is gone, too. 10 bolter shots from marines are now 2.

Add on that detachments do "the same thing" and alternating activations and it should be maybe 2 or 3 hours for a 6,000 point game 1 on 1. I'm not sure how alternating works on 2v2.

My main question right now is how good the apoc system would be at 2k points.

Would make the games really really fast.

Really depends on how the detachments work. If you can fit 3 detachments in 2000 points still in apocalypse. Then it's just a game with 3 activations per side. Seems like it would play just fine.
