Having built and painted a massive guard army and a Ork Speed Freeks horde it is time for somehting new. I have looked at Nids before and even bought and sold an army after building and painting just two models some years back. Now it is time to give it another shot. I like this army to include only cool models, models I like the looks of, models which give the 'starship troopers' vibe and are looking dead scarry. Hence there will be an abundance of Scything talons and hardly any shooting weapons. This means: Flyrants/ Carnifexes/ Trygon, loads of Hormagaunts and Genestealers and every big monster I like.

I have started building some models and developed a paintscheme. At the moment I am doing some Hormy test models with the following: off-white skin/ subtle redish flesh/ dark talons and claws/ dark carapace with color-shift paint to make them look like beetles. Looking forward to seeing how this works and also comments and tips.

As I like to make a lot of work of the basing and theming of my models this time I'll let the Nids destroy and devour some space marines. Thus as part of this army there'll be a squad of space marines in various stages of fighting back and being torn apart. I haven't been able to decide on the colours of the marines themselves but don't want them to stand out all that much. They are just basing material after all. Perhaps something in the line of Black Templars or such. If you have any advice, please tell!

Some pictures of the first built models. First the genestealers. I imagine them as a fast and scary horde rushing onto their opponents.

A marine desperately defending himself against an onrushing Genestealer. Think I will have to paint the marines head seperately in order to get it right.

His comrade is desperately stuggling with an onrushing nid.

The last one has had it. He'll get some intestines hanging from his belly to justify his final action.

And then there is the duel between a sergeant and the flyrant. For this model I use the Trygon's tail to grab the marine in mid flight. The entire model is standing on just one leg of the marine and is surprisingly sturdy and stable. Everything is pinned of course. For the extra dramatic pose I turned the Tyrant's feet into Massive rending claws using left over bits from the Mawloc.

To be continued.
