I generally leave at least one arm off. I can’t speak for guardsmen, but for marines I’ll often glue the supporting arm on, but the one holding the bolter (which would obscure the chest) I leave separate for painting.

Same here.
Though I usually fully assemble characters and models with a more open pose (for guard things like a guardsman throwing a grenade or satchel charge, anything that's not gun across chest).
I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.
