I want to equip my vanguard vet jump pack sarge with a relic blade and powerfist, but people on redit are telling me it's not a good idea and I should go for a storm shield instead. Surely two separate D3 is better than just one D3.

Bare in mind this is for kill team not 40k, it's just not very buzzing over at are section on dakka. So some of you might not know how the injury roll mechanics work and how important and deadly it is. With the above weapons if both hit just once, then potentially my opponent could in theory need to pass 6 injury rolls.

Am I missing some sort of insight or just dumb af.

Cheers!

I'm not 100% on Killteam, so I'll just give you the 40k reason not to do so: your Attack Characteristic determines the number of Attacks you get, not the weapon load-out (unless a weapon specifically states you get an extra attack with it). So, taking two similar weapons does nothing for you, in 40k. Now, if Killteam bases attacks on the number of weapons you have, then it can be good to have two similar weapons.

It does basically work the same as 40k, so there's not really much reason to take a second melee weapon.

If you have 2 attacks for instance, that's all the attacks you get. Having a second weapon just gives you a choice over which weapon(s) to make them with. But generally the second weapon is just going to be a waste of points!

An exception is weapons that give you extra attacks like Chainswords, which can be worth taking as an extra melee weapon.

No need to be annoyed by it - it doesn't really give you anything. You get a limited number of attacks, and you divide them between your weapons as you see fit. Having two weapons with similar profiles makes it even more pointless.

So, assuming the Vanguard Vet sergeant gets 3 attacks in Kill Team like he does in regular 40k - if, say, you had the Relic Blade and the Storm Shield, you make 3 attacks with the Relic Blade, and you get the extra protection from the Storm Shield. If you had a Relic Blade and a Power Fist, you still only make 3 attacks, but don't get the shield's protection boost. Maybe you make all 3 attacks with the Relic Blade and none with the Power Fist. Or 2 with the Power Fist and 1 with the Relic Blade, or whatever. You've got the same number of chances of causing that D3 damage whether you have one weapon or two.
