I was wondering if it was in fact possible to disarm a Necron so that they leave their weapon behind. I'm running an Only War campaign where the players are fighting the Maynarkh dynasty (long story) and was wondering if this would be plausible as we have a few people in the group that are very fanatical about the lore being correct.
I'd ask them but they are my players in the campaign and I want to keep it as a sort of surprise.

Pretty sure the Ordo Xenos have managed it, as their fancy swords are basically stolen hyperphase swords.

But generally, Necron weapons teleport back to the Tomb World, same as their bodies.

I'm sure one can easily dream up some Star Trek rationale to allow this: there is an ion storm warp anomaly that is blocking the Necron phase transmitters, disallowing them or their equipment to phase back to... and so on and so forth.

When Necrons become so damaged they cant phase back they simply explode. There has probably been some times where the Necron didn't explode and simply switched off, or when they exploded the weapon remained intact.

I remember reading a small fluff excerpt from the 5th? ed. book where they Mechanicum had managed to get one of the Gauss Flayers to research. They determined they could re-create it but it would be Titan sized and would only be able to fire once. They have no idea how a man-sized unit can hold so much energy and not be destroyed.

Assume the teleporter/teleport homer is in the Necron himself, rather than in every piece of equipment. The Necron teleports back when damaged and during phase out (3rd ed victory condition where you inflict enough casualties and the entire necron army retreats by teleport), along with any equipment nearby, but there must be an effective range on this.

Nearby vehicles like the Monolith may boost this range.

Effectively, when you loot a Necron tomb, you take the equipment far from any Necron who could recall it via teleport. Conceivably, if you then fought a Necron at close range with the equipment on you, it might phase out with the Necron (assuming its from the same dysnasty or compatable signal codes)

Alternatively, the recall teleporter is a mechanism within the tomb/ship that works locally, independently of the 'crons themselves. In this case, it can teleport equipment out that is far from any necron, but its a piece of equipment that could be damaged or destroyed.

It would also need a trigger like the disabling of the bearer or necron retreat. If you just disarmed the necron/looted the tomb and ran away it may not trigger, allowing you to loot the necrons.
You might need to leave the system or a Necron officer could conceivably trigger the teleport manually, recalling the equipment (and maybe whoever was holding it...)

Finally, stasis field tech is common enough in the imperium to be used instead of refrigeration. You could capture an entire necron warrior in a stasis field and spirit far enough him away from the tombworld/tombship where he cant teleport back.

Yes, they said that the firing mechanism would weld itself shut, thus ruining the weapon.

One of the white dwarf scenarios way back involved the imperium using jammers to try and block phase out, in order to gather necron technology to examine before it vanished/self destructed
