The GW artwork gives them Heavy Support/Devastator Chevrons. Should they? Or should they have the elite/Crux? Or potentially even the fast attack four way or unlikely the tactical Arrow as they shoot and fight like tacs? For that matter should they have vet/white helmets and pauldron rims? (in ultramarines, veterans/1st company have white helmets)

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

The codex has them listed as fire support squads along with devastators, hellblasters and those awful centurions. So the markings are correct as per the codex.

How ever paint yours however you like and come up with a reason why.

yeah they're heavy support filling the same role in the codex astartes as devestators. I know a lotta people like to say Gravis is the terminator equivilant, but that's more with respect to the Gravis being a heavier set of armor. we have not right now seen vetern primaris Marines. and I suspect it'll be awhile before we do

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

In my custom chapter, they fill in the role of Elites, so the Crux Terminatus - however, this may change if Primaris are given actual 1st Company units.

In all fairness, my custom guys do mess about with the designations of units.
Battleline units are Intercessors and Infiltrators (only appear in 10th Company)
Close Support units are Inceptors, Suppressors, and Reivers (only appear in 10th Company)
Fire Supports units are Hellblasters and Eliminators (only appear in 10th Company)

They/them

I question(ed) the shoulder pad iconography for several reasons... short range and power fists doesn’t really feel Heavy Support devastatorish. Gravis is only part of the reason I’m thinking Crux, boltstorms feel a lot like storm bolster/power fist, plus they come from the elite codex entries not heavy support.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

They fill the fire support role because they are Close Range Fire support. They plod along with the rest of the force laying down a suppressive fire with small arms caliber weapons. Fire support by virtue of the amount of fire they unleash upon the enemy.

They feel like a fire support unit designed for Boarding Actions, highly industrialized areas, tunnels, where rate of fire or flamethrowers, will win out against the more mobile (and unless its other Astartes, Lightly Armored) enemies you'd encounter.

I’ve designed a whole new chapter organisation for my home brew primaris because it isn’t clear how they work as yet. I personally like the freedom it gives. I have no problem with seeing some aggressors in veteran markings and others in fire support in the same chapter. Same unit. Different role.

From the description of how Aggressors operate, it sounds like they actually fit the Close Support role rather than Fire Support.
