Hi guys, do you think I could use the Haarken model as a chaos lord with jump pack?

Basically I want a HQ unit to support 2, 5 man units of Raptors. I really don't like the model with the lightning claws (plus it's resin ewww) so was thinking about using Haarken instead.

I'm also being really lazy sorry I'm at my folks and don't have my codex but what could I say the spear is?

I’d be cool with you counting it as, say, a second lightning claw. Or a chainsword. Or whatever really.

Cool.

Actually looking at the sprue, the spear is the whole thing including hand that just sticks on to the arm stump, so would be very easy to substitute spear and hand for another CC weapon, as he is holding the spear pointed down relative to his hand, even a sword or a similar may look cool as it'll look like he's swinging it down.

So long as you let me know beforehand that it's not Haarken, I wouldn't care.

I'd expect the spear to count as another power weapon, or maybe a thunder hammer, but so long as you make it clear beforehand I wouldn't care if it was a lightning claw or chainweapon.

Yea fair enough, a try and be strict with myself on WYSIWYG, funny cus I'm really casual about other people.

I'll probably glue an alternative I have a power maul that might look cool.

I reckon I'll buy those other HQ units also, the new releases, they are really nice models and I'm getting close to finishing my CSM army but other than an old metal chaos lord I don't have any HQ yet.

The Haarken model is so much better then the current Chaos lord with jump pack. Like others have said, either a simple weapon swap or making it clear to you opponent clear what is is shouldn't be an issue.

A weapon swap is probably better in the long run as it stops people arguing with you about it.

I'm actually doing the same thing. I've been kitbashing Chaos Lord variants out of Raptors and I just remembered I have an unassembled Haarkon. Plan on swapping the claw for a Combi Plasma, and count the Spear as a Power Staff/axe/balesword or whatever. Haarkons weapon is clearly a relic with extra ap and damage, but its close to a staff/axe in stats.

Could also be a Plasma Pistol.

I'd be cool with it, his spear is awesome!

Why he can't ACTUALLY use it in close combat is just beyond me....

Ohhh I didn't think about looking through the relics actually, could make him warlord.

Although to be fair, I think I will model him with a different weapon, make him different to the stock model which also might define him more away from being Haarken.

I actually have the kit now, not opened it yet though I'm doing a chaos rhino first.

Modelled with a plasma pIstol and a power maul, and I think I may make this guy my warlord, so the power maul will be the relic the Black Mace.

Perfectly WYSIWYG according to the CSM codex for a chaos lord with jump pack.

I'm kinda planning on something similar for my Flawless Host. Not sure what power weapon to give him. To anyone who has built him, how do the arms "slot" in? I'm not afraid of cutting him up if that's what's needed.

I used to be afraid of that too, but start small with something like Hands. When you get used to that, doing arms will be a breeze.

It's hard to explain how the arms glue, the spear army glues from torso to hand, the hand and spear are one piece. The torso has little notches in to force the positions on the arms.

For me I wasn't too difficult, the right arm (plasma gun) is 100% chaos raptor arm with the Haarken shoulder pad. All I needed to do was shave the little notch on the side of the torso.

The left arm, I used the Harken arm up until just below the elbow joint which I then had to cut. I then stuck on a raptor army cut just above the gauntlet line.

The weapon itself is also a slight mod as the club actually came from a Neophyte Hybrid.

For FLGS play, just be up front with your match partner that you're running it non-WYSIWYG and 95% of the time it'll be a nonissue. For tournament play it'd likely be a little iffier, but with some simple conversion work to differentiate it from a stock Haarken I dont see why it would be any problem at all.
