Sorry I'm a bit new to AoS and Warhammer, but I was wondering on the warscroll for the Daemonettes it says 1 model in this unit can be an Allurer. Does that mean if I take a unit of 30 Daemonettes only 1 of them can be an Allurer, and if so what is the point then of taking a 30 unit of Daemonettes? Why not just 3 units of 10?

The point is so you have 20+ models where each 6 to hit=3 hits instead of 1.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

In addition in AoS you often get a discount for taking full units.

10 Deamonettes are 110 points
30 Deamonettes are 300 points

As you can see by taking one single unit you have a saving of 30 points.

Larger units also have more durability and power in general in a given single round of combat and more survivability crossing the battlefield.

Smaller units, of course, can fit into smaller spaces, can cover more ground on the table, can operate on their own etc...

So there's bonuses and negatives to both aspects, the key is to work out what you need them to do so that you take the right number.

The issue I’m having with larger units is it’s difficult to get a lot of them within 1 inch to attack. Piling in is the nearest enemy correct? So I wouldn’t be able to even pile in surrounding an unit. Sorry I’m new to AoS and just cant see how a unit of 30 will work. Only half of them will probably be able to attack at one time.

Aye in real world terms you might well never get all 30 into combat at once every single time. You can still wrap around units and move closer and finish your moves closer to the target enemy unit (note its unit not model). That said so you don't get all 30 into combat at once, but you've got them ready for the next round and the next. You've got more bodies to soak damage as a unit, whilst if you only had 10 there'd be a greater chance of the enemy killing off a unit then being free to charge (and get any bonuses) into one of your other units. Or to pick them off until their moral breaks etc..

Sometimes you might well only want 3 units of 10 to pay for the "battleline tax" (assuming a 2K game where you need minimum of 3 battleline units) and then build the rest of the army without battleline options. Eg you might go very heavy on expensive leaders

Models only have to end 'at least as close' to the closest model, which leaves a lot of wiggle room in terms of wrapping around. One of the places where skill has a lot of effect in AoS is pile-ins, once you figure them out you should have no trouble getting 20 or so in range out of a 30-man unit. Note that daemonettes have 25mm bases and with 1 inch being 25.4mm they can swing in two ranks. Having 10 'nettes base-to-base with another 10 behind them means 20 getting to swing. And as previously mentioned GW designed the allegiance buff to artfully compensate by making 20+ man units do 3 hits on a 6 instead of 2.

Larger size units also have benefits to battleshock; you subtract one from your battleshock result for every 10 models in the unit. So whereas a 10-man unit that loses 5 models can fail battleshock (roll a 6, +5 casualties equals 11 verses bravery 10) a 30-man must lose 7 (roll a 6, +7 casualties, -2 for having 20+). It seems small but can really make a difference, especially with high bravery units.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

Plus - 1 activation will get you 30 models attacking rather than 3 activations of 10 models. Remember in the combat phase you take it in turns to select a unit to pile in and fight (assuming no other rules are in effect).

Well yeah...but a savvy Slaanesh general will be attacking with all his stuff before enemies anyway. Seriously, letting your opponent get attacks before the end of combat is a Slaaneshi “no-no”.

Counterpoint is that the enemy will be playing to stop that from happening. Unless your opponent went with very low unit count or screwed up very badly at least some of their force will be swinging at normal speed some of the time, keeping the factor relevant. At the same time the ASL abilities of Slaanesh are important and should certainly be accounted for, so it goes both ways.
