So I've been thinking lately. I've been playing 40k for a long while but I took a break and then got back into it. Back when I used to play there were no Knights and the biggest thing you'd see on the table was a Land Raider most of the time. Forgeworld Titans were a thing people aspired to and when you saw one brought out it was a moment of awe. Now you got Knights all over the place and even stuff like Tau Stormsurges and likewise. Even the Baneblade has become a common sight!

It got me thinking if there is a future for FW models in general. They are always lagging behind in terms of datasheets and even when they get one the models just don't seem to add up. I mean for example, comparing Knights to a Heirophant Biotitan. You can get two Castellans and still have points left over when compared to the Heirophant and the two Castellans would flatten a Bio-Titan no contest. With the new Apocolypse launching the datasheets released don't even cover FW models and so the game type where big units usually saw play can't even be used yet.

What does everyone else think? Personally, I'm a little saddened by the differences between GW and FW and it feels to me as if it's fast becoming a scene where FW models are just not playable any more. I hope I'm wrong.

Forgeworld is being retooled to focus on Specialist games (Horus Heresy, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, etc) and moving away from 40k. This hasn't been officially announced, but it is confirmed by multiple sources (including someone I know personally at GW HQ).

So longer term, this shouldn't be as much of an issue.

What they plan to do with all the legacy 40k stuff however is unknown. Will some be replaced by plastic equivalents? Will they still produce them as resin but with the GW brand and with the core GW rules team taking over responsibility for the rules? Will they simply stop making all the kits that aren't primarily for Horus Heresy?

All that is speculation at this point.

Yeah, I'm uncertain what role FW will play in the future of 40k. I have bunch of FW models and have no interest in them losing rules. The 30k stuff is understandable to continue having relic rules/points, the other stuff for Admech(cerastus, styrix magera etc) should retain rules since they're currently used(in universe).

I want them to continue developing units/loadouts, but with the main GW rules team solely responsible for the 40k rules.
