Hail Warlords
I just want to get people thoughts on the usefulness of servants of the abyss.
Previously they were a novelty patrol and only useful in Kill Teams. But with Traitor Command and the Commissar giving +3 to advance and charge rolls and possibly give us the ability to make it a battalion. Also with the firebrand and cultists coming in the following Esculation expansion making it a better and cheaper battalion I believe it could make a good cp battery and useful even in competive games. I'm hoping that it leads to a traitor guard codex but not putting money on it.
Anyway what is your thoughts on servants of the abyss in 40k? They're still locked to those really awful and oddly specific squad sizes right? Because a lot of what hamstrings them is being stuck taking them in 4 or 7 man units.
A squad of say 20 beastmen or traitor guard would be great, but with GW's insistence that we only run EXACTLY what came in the box I don't see them being useful for much of anything competitively

'I've played Guard for years, and the best piece of advice is to always utilize the Guard's best special rule: "we roll more dice than you" ' - stormleader
"Sector Imperialis: 25mm and 40mm Round Bases (40+20) 26€ (Including 32 skulls for basing) " GW design philosophy in a nutshell |

I don't know if they changed it but probably not.
8th Ed does favour msu though and they are the cheapest unit in the game. It does also mean they are almost immune to moral and overkill not to mention the tactical flexibility of being in msu. All of that makes them viable for competive IMHO.
That said I would love it if they made squad size and load outs customizable. Maybe 5-20 man and a special weapon for every 5 and a heavy weapon team for every 10 also all can swap lasguns for cqc and pistol.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

I did notice that as well. Doesn't give the strength bonus sadly

I've been considering running a small Chaos force, and this looks right up my alley! Automatically Appended Next Post: We're still stuck with a max of 2 traitor gaurd and rogue psyker units, and 1 beastman and negavolt cultists, right?

Sadly it looks like it and still no word on warlord traits, relics or stratagems. You will need to ally with other guys.
Black legion can take mallex which will still give re roll hit rolls of 1 to Servants.
Any chaos character can also summon deamons (including the ones from this army). These guys are best as a cheap battery, which R&H can do cheaper but not as good as servants IMHO.
