Does anyone know how you can arm a standard Chaos Space Marines Squad? Particularly how many marines can be armed with Bolters, and how many could be armed with Chianswords & Pistols? Also, what’s you thoughts on the new models, do you think their lacking or an improvement over the older ones?

I didn't know there was a limit for weapons in a unit, i thought there wasn't (i'm assuming unit and squad is the same thing, because i'm noob ). But if there were for the new ones, i would assume it would be found on the data sheet of a marine in CSM codex v2 , just like it tells you how many models can be in one unit.

Are you asking what the rules allow, or what options come in the box?

The new models visually are better but lack the customization of the old kit. Parts go with each other still so there's no more assemble legs, assemble torsos, fit together how you want.

The box allows for 8 models with bolters and 7 models with Pistol+Chainsword IIRC. So it is not possible to have a squad with all bolters or pistols+Chainsword in a kit of 10 to fill out a squad to 20. The expectation is that you're building a special/heavy/champion with every box.

That is disappointing and continues a silly trend of GW really pruning options on newer kits. This might be the first one that can't even be bothered to give you enough pieces to make the stock unit, let alone enough to have every upgrade without having to buy another box.

I think you hit on the key point that GW is trying to make lol.

GW points don't bring balance. They exist purely for structure. You can get more balance from no points than you do from GW points. You however can get no structure in your game without points.

On that note, the way they do kits now I'd really just like to see them only allow you the number in the kit. So like if a kit had 1 flamer, 1 melta, and 1 plasma, you would only be able to give 1 model a plasma, not 2 if the squad allowed 2 special weapons. Basically, the same thing they did to the Kharadron Thunderers in AOS.

the lack of boltguns is mildly annoying but in practice I found I was building with special weapons etc anyway. although sadly you get only one of each special IIRC, woulda annoyed me if I hadn't used chaingun bits from my havoks on one of my CSMs.

The lack of standard equipment is a buisness tactic affecting ALL the new and updated models.
Terminators with Chainaxes an actually might usefull terminator setup? Good luck getting your Chainaxes or combi plas.
Havocs, 1 reaper chaincannon. congratz gw.
Csm, lack of boltguns and chainswords.

I don't see why it would be any harder to customize when all you have to do is cut the extra plastic that is for joints.

Have been doing a lot of joint cutting recently.

With regards to the new CSMs from Shadowspear, the new models are detailed, getting everything to look right is not trivial. Arms especially, the area under the shoulder pad is consistent for each model and there's lots of little bits to work with.

I'm really new to the Table-Top Game as well, I've been looking into the game for quite a bit and love the lore behind the setting, (Big fan of the Black Legion and Word Bearers) but I've always had a problem with the prices of the models to even start playing, and I'd think if their going to charge such a high price for their models they should give you a product that can actually be equipped with items given to them in the rulebook. Unfortunately, at the moment other games such as Corvus Belli INFINITY have cheaper and better looking models or The Song Of Ice & Fire Miniature Game which has similarly cheaper prices and better looking models, look more appealing even though I love the universe since it got me into this genre of TTG.

keep in mind this is less of a problem then a lotta people let on, if you're running CSMs, (as opposed to cultists) you're going to want to stick some sort of heavy or special weapon in the squad. the bigger problem to my way of thinking isn' that there are 8 bolters but only one plasma gun and no combi bolter of any type. if they had managed to squeeze a combi bolter in or another plasma gun (ideally a plasma gun that could be expanded to a combi bolter) it'd not be a big issue. but as it stands it is mildly annoying. Still, I think no one's going to complain too much if you're not 100% WYSIWYG with a basic CSM squad, so long as they know all the chain sword guns are actually boltgun guys

It's definitely not. Chaos Terminators have combi-bolter and chain axe as default. Not enough of either to equip the whole squad.
Eldar War Walker comes with only one Shuriken Cannon when the default loadout is 2.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Magnets are overall your friends. But with newer kits they don't always help. Plague Marines come with 5 Plagueknifes when you'd need 14 for a basic squad with 2 knifes each. Also just one of each special weapon when you could need two although that's been always the case with GW kits) But the most idiotic thing that was unfortunately even transferred to the rules is the loadout of one guy with axe and mace. Both aren't bad weapons on their own but you'd never take them together under current rules but due to the Kit you can't take the mace on its own.

True, that reminds me does anyone know if I removing the extra finger for a lightning claw hand could it be used as a power fist for Chaos Terminators? By the way, why are Chaos Terminator receiving chain-axes as their standard melee weapon over power fists, which are usually the standard issue melee weapon for Terminators?

Chaos Terminators always had the advantage of being able to take other Power weapons (I think the fluff explains it with their origin in the Heresy and being more open in their equipment). Chainaxes are something new for them in 8th Edition, but being originally used for boarding actions just like Terminators themselves they fit well.

I'm pretty sure my tiny little hunched-over 25mm-based 2nd Ed. Chaos Terminators came with a Chainaxe or two.

You know, if there's one thing I've learnt from being in the Army, it's never ignore a pooh-pooh. I knew a Major who got pooh-poohed, made the mistake of ignoring the pooh-pooh. He pooh-poohed it! Fatal error! 'Cause it turned out all along that the soldier who pooh-poohed him had been pooh-poohing a lot of other officers who pooh-poohed their pooh-poohs. In the end, we had to disband the regiment.

Explain Primaris.

10 copies of three different types of bolters
10 copies of three different types of Plasma Incinerators
etc...

Why did they do it with one set of models, and then change the direction with another?

While we're on that subject, notice how the CSM squad is quite diverse in its kit, yet the Primaris kits are quite bland with extra options.

I really feel like the design team at GW is fractured. Primaris models seem to be all over the place, with no real plan.

We got an initial smattering of models when the new edition launched, then we got a "wave 2" with shadowspear, but that wave hasn't actually even come out (outside of the boxset) with full kits yet, and they're already teasing yet more new hodgepodge things in their latest video. I can see what is obviously a new aggressor variant in that video, alongside the new tank, along side the eliminator kit and something else that sort of looks like Prime Devastators to me.

What exactly is the design philosophy for marines currently?
