Hello all,
I was really into 40k a few years back but got moved around for a couple years (work related).
I havent played since 6th edition and bought a lot of the new Tau models before essentially quitting.

Now I have found a friend that plays Eldar.

I remember that I have 3 riptides and a bunch of broadsides... Are they still good? And are they good enough against Eldar?

Any tips and tricks for Tau tactics vs eldar is appreciated.

A Riptide is good, 3 is probably excessive. Broadsides are alright.

Whether they are going to hold their own against Eldar will massively depend on your opponent's list. Eldar can be one of the best armies in the game, but it all depends how tuned the list is.

Thanks, I was the one that sold him this Eldar army.. It doesnt have anything newer than 2016ish models... but it does have most of the vehicles and a few wraithlords that he likes to play with

Triptide is a known strategy and it is very good, if you have various shield drones for support.

Tau are also taking a lot of ETC tournaments, they are in a good place. I have not fielded mine in a logn time due to loving my ork codex but have theory crafterd a few lists of mostly broadsides, riptides and crisis suits, I think they will be fun. tau thread and youtube are your friends on tactics. been watching a lot of tau matches to see how things work before putting my tau down too.

Yeah, riptides and broadsides are core competitive units (with heavy burst cannon and missiles respectively). The key to real strength, though, is the shield drones. Those are bonkers good when paired with any sort of threatening suit core. Your enemies will tear their hair out as their anti-tank weapons do nothing, while your big suits get to shoot them up freely.

Agreed, people in my area have stopped even bringing any marker lights to just load up on drones and suits, playing them like guard with overwhelming firepower

I wouldnt recommend taking a triptide list to a friendly came. Its not exactly the most fun list to play against and might be overpowering against someone that likes to bring Wraithlords.

Recommend capping at 1 and bringing a variety of other stuff.
