Hey folks, I pretty much wrapped up my Winged Hussar project with the latest fig (link here) and that left me open for another slow burn project. Back when the primaris were first introduced, I initially had planned on making a Space Wolf kill team for them similar to how I did some "truscale" conversions years ago for the Wolves when I was running a Deathwatch RPG campaign (link here). There were plenty of folks doing SW primaris when they arrived given how popular they are for conversions so I instead decided to come up with a custom chapter design that ultimately became my Winged Hussars. I still had some SW bits along with an extra Lieutenant that I was saving for just such a situation so I decided to give it another go using some more recent upgrade sprues (both the standard SW and Primaris ones).

I initially was going to use the oversized frostblade/chainsword but, from a lengthy image search, it looks like everyone and their mother are using it with the same lieutenant for PrimaRagnar conversions. I instead opted to swap out both arms for something a bit more unique. I decided to go with the frost axe instead (didn't see any pics of that one in my searches on the starter lieutenant) as well as the combat knife drawing arm. I wasn't entirely happy with the look of the axe so I decided to add a spike that I converted from an old chaos bit to the other side. I was going for a "straight out of the Horus Heresy" era look so went with the ribbed and studded shoulder. Taking that a step further, I decided to try chain pteurges instead of the more common fur loincloth (in part because of the theme above but also because I simply didn't have the later!). For painting purposes, I haven't yet glued all the parts on but I'm curious to hear what folks think potentially about the model and more specifically about the chain loincloth. It's only bluetac'ed on right now so I'd expect it to be a bit neater in the final glued version. Is it worth it or should I just instead go for a more traditional fur loincloth instead?

For the paint scheme, I'm going to go with something a bit darker than current era Space Wolves. The two leading contenders are the Wolfspear scheme

or the Dusk Howlers.
