So I got my codex today and ordered a couple of the Knight kits and I was supremely disappointed to learn that there aren't any other kits. That all of the "chaos" markings and bits are in fact mostly painting tricks and a few bits from the Rampager/Desolator Kit. So basically we got a codex and 1 kit. We didn't even get a character, nor did we get the Laser arm from the Preceptor kit. Anyone else feel a little ripped off here?

I imagine most people researched what the army was getting before purchasing.
You have more unique stuff than Imperium as far as model parts anyway. You can use all the Imperium and Chaos bits,
Imperium just has that 1 gun that is a unique bit for them.

Las-impulsor on the Preceptor is Imperial only, Laser destructor on the Desecrator is Chaos only. Chaos also get a bit more flexibility in load-outs, being able to double-up on weapons.

There has been a ton of content in the form of podcasts and youtube reviews this past week discussing this very topic. What else were you expecting?

I think you mean "underwhelmed" and not "ripped off". Ripped off would indicate that you bought something and got less than what you paid for...or were somehow swindled.
I don't think anyone really expected anything more than the one Chaos Knight kit that they showed off. GW made mention in numerous videos that the other models were kit-bashed with bits from other sources, etc.
A little more research would have helped you in your purchase. That being said, the video reviews I've seen of the Codex are a little "meh", but it has some stupendously strong rule combinations.
Also, the third party resin, and 3D printing market is already flooded with Chaos knight "bits" and mods/upgrades. Plenty of stuff to convert your own.

I'll echo what Elbows said. Tons of 3rd party bits and kits. Plus the FW chaos knight kit. For 3rd party check out Legio Models, Shapeways and Etsy.
Edit: here is a pic of my knight with the Guzzler (World Eaters) kit from Legio Models. The gauntlet is called "Sorcerers hand"

The photos that were shown in the original video seems to clearly indicate lots of bits that fit the "spiky chaos" vibe, giving the impression that there would likely be upgrade sprues in all the existing knight kits.
In my opinion, they were not clear in this. Automatically Appended Next Post: beast_gts wrote:Las-impulsor on the Preceptor is Imperial only, Laser destructor on the Desecrator is Chaos only. Chaos also get a bit more flexibility in load-outs, being able to double-up on weapons.
That's fine, I'm more talking about the images that were shown off vs the book actually having a box telling you to buy the imperial kits, and confirming no upgrade sprues for the Dominus or for the Little Titans.

Togusa, my point is...you can't be ripped off if you didn't buy something and get less than you expected. Did the Chaos Knights you bought have the appropriate sprues and pieces in them? If so, they didn't lie to you or rip you off. They have not advertised a Chaos Knight kit for any other model than the basic one.
You can feel underwhelmed, or mistaken, or a little let down by the release....but you didn't buy something (which is, by definition how you'd have been ripped off) that was missing pieces...so the complaint is odd. Choose better words.

Knights should never have been an army for anyone. Imperium or Chaos. Too few units with too specific a job. They are units to supplement a who bunch of armies not an army unto themselves.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

that might have been the case once but Knights have 3 distinct chassis with a half dozen specific units. that's not too bad all considered

I said I felt that the release was not advertised correctly. Automatically Appended Next Post: Lance845 wrote:Knights should never have been an army for anyone. Imperium or Chaos. Look, I'm happy to enjoy the models, but I feel as though a huge opportunity to put out some great kits here was missed. If that was their intention from the get go, so be it. For the future, I hope they will be a bit more clear in their own press releases what comes in the boxes.

I'd not be suprised if more chaos knight kits where planned for the future assuming these sold.

if this is the case, then that is great! I'd actually be happy if they went and split, having the current base of models + some really wacky-cool Chaos only monstrosities. The one positive thing about this is that for the cost of production of 1 kit and a book, they managed to squeek in a whole new faction for cheap.

It's considerably more than I was expecting for chaos knights before their announcement - which was an upgrade sprue comparable to the Imperials preceptor kit.
Actually putting out an entirely new knight kit seems like overkill but I guess GW felt it was worth going the extra mile. Knight sales are good I guess.

keep in mind, Imperial Knights also started off with "just one kit" given that GW seems to be calling the chaos versions of helvriens etc differant things. I imagine they'll eventually get their own kit. and once GW gives chaos and Imperials their own precise kits for everything, they'll seperate a bit. GW was moving careful because a lot of people had used the renegade knights index to do their own stuff, which meant GW had to work within the constraints of that or cheese off their player base.

This is fair. As I said above, I'll be happy if we get some sort of deamon-knight hybrids in the future, stuff like that FW Khorne bi-ped machine would be awesome!

Well, imagine how I feel.
I've been sitting on 2 boxes of IK: Renegade and Forgebane for 6 months, waiting to see what we get in Codex Chaos Knights. I've been sketching conversion ideas, practicing reliefs for carapaces, researching 3rd party bit dealers, etc.
Then GW releases a model with cooler legs and more spikey bits. Feels like I've been gambling with my imagination, all the good ideas become obsolete once GW pulls back the curtain.
I wish we could go back to 2012-style leaks where we had an inkling of what's coming in advance. This 2 week announcement period is just brutal.

Yeah, but you know how that is in business...you never want to stop Chaos Knight players for six-eight months before release...you keep that close to your chest to get people buying the old knights right up to when you release the new one. It's a super common practice.
I admit it sucks. In fact I assume when I buy and build something - the cool new one will come out tomorrow....always...ALWAYS.

That's why I'm just going to buy three Chaos Knights and a couple Armigers. I'm gonna pass on everything else until some time has elapsed.
