Hello all, I am looking into getting a big case to transport my minis I play between 2000-3000 points usually and I need something big that can take my tanks troops and also big Daemon models. Any recommendation for me? is the citadel case XL any good looks small to me about only 2000 points worth of models maybe.

No, Citadel sucks.
I'd recommend one of Battlefoam's P.A.C.K. bags, probably the 720.
https://us.battlefoam.com/categories/Battle-Foam-P.A.C.K.-System-Bags/P.A.C.K.-720/
Has enough room for 12.5" of foam.

I'll second anything other than the Citadel cases. I have one but god is it terrible.
Battlefoam or KR Multicase. I've used Battlefoam for Warmahordes, haven't used KR but I've heard good things. The best part about those is that they often have custom cut trays that fit big models, rather than just squares.

I've had a PACK 720 for 10+ years. No zippers have broken, no cloth has torn, and it's seen extremely regular use (I used to take public transit to the game store so I was lugging it 2-3 miles).
I fit 3000 points of orks in it this weekend, that was pretty much capacity.
Only thing I'd say is a must is adding your own shoulderstrap (or maybe they sell one IDK) but even then it's not a super ergonomic design since it's literally a box. Some of the mega-fancy ones have backpack straps or suitcase wheels+handlebars which would definitely be nice.
Only problem I have with it game-wise is transporting huge models like knights requires very thick foam, so you can only fit a couple of those in.

There's an add-on bag, the P.A.C.K. XL, which is designed specifically to take their 2-Knight Tray.
IIRC, it zips right on to the top of the 720, or the 1520.

Maybe my 720 is older but it doesn't have an extra half-zipper on top or bottom like I've seen on other cases.

They come with a shoulder-strap now, too. Still boxy and kinda awkward to carry any distance.

I saw a few of a friends Battlefoam bags he used and they were not the same as the one I have. Looks like they have made a few changes over the years here and there. Bought my bag 8 years ago I think and my friends newest bag were just a year old or so and it is clearly better made. A bit more robust around some of the seams and handles for example.
Edit: Meh read to fast and misunderstood what I quoted.

I'll also second Battlefoam. I have a 720 with several different ways of storing the minis (custom foam trays, magna racks, etc). This way you only need 1 bag, and just bring whichever tray is relevant to the army you are transporting that day.

Battlefoam also has custom fitted trays for the various greater daemons. Note that these trays take up about half of a PACK 720! But given how much these minis cost investing in some good protection on the go is IMO worth it.
They make pre-cut trays for all manner of 40k (and more) factions. I also own a PACK Go, which is a backpack version and great for keeping your hands free, though I doubt you could put more than 1000 points into one unless you're running Custodes or Harlequins.

Of the brands I've tried...most have poor foam (read: too hard, scratchy, etc.) That includes Tabletop Tyrant (nice and cheap on eBay, from the UK), Battlefoam (likewise, not a huge fan). Same goes for the Miniature Market brand that I can't think of at the moment.
The last KR stuff that I used had good foam, so that's pretty biased me toward them. I have a cheaper Feldherr case and it was likewise..."okay" foam, but not super great. To me, soft and pliable foam is more important than pretty much anything. To that end, KR is the best I've used.
One thing to consider, a big downside to me is that foam trays now often come with a pressed foam bottom layer. This provide stiffness and keeps the tray stable....BUT...it also makes a harder surface that can break weapons, spears, banners, fingers when stacked on top of eachother, unless the bottom layer is fully concealed. Softer foam without a pressed foam bottom means that the trays are flexible, so you need more caution loading them, but the softer foam bottom is more likely to protect the top of the minis in the tray beneath.

it is pricey but it sounds like you might be looking for Kaizen foam its good stuff I use it in my workshop tool drawers, its pretty pricey though, but it cna be glued together and stacked to whatever thickness you wan then cut out to the exact shapes you want. and it is soft throughout. I made a few custom trays for my chaos stuff with so many spikey parts that break easy. They do the job well.

I've got a BattleFoam 1520. I started with Army Transport by Sabol Designs - they had a Battalion roller transport - about the size of a carry-on - with generic and/or pick-and-pluck foam. I switched up to Battle Foam for the custom cut trays, and larger bag. I could fit 2,000 points of Space Marines and Brettonians in each of my Army Transports, I don't even know what I can fit in the 1520. Maybe 4-5K I think the only way you're fitting 20K in a solution is to full custom the solution. Maybe get one of those gigantic Tool dollies like you see from Dewalt with the https://www.homedepot.com/b/DEWALT/N-5yc1vZ4j2/Ntk-ProductInfoMatch/Ntt-portable%2Btool%2Bstorage?NCNI-5&storeSelection=1505,1526,1514,1520,1550 Tough System or the TSTAK and build your own foam inserts if you can't find a company that already makes some.

Another vote for KR. Their pre-sculpted trays are very good, and give you lots of options. Pick a model you're worried about having and you can search their site for trays made specifically for it e.g. 'baal predator's
I have the backpack case, because I used to not be able to drive, and thought I would be able to bike to the game store Never actually had the guts to do that lol

what size are thoe trays. they look nice but I designed my own case for 7.5" (190.5 mm) x13" (330.2 mm) and don't want to remake those. not finding tray sizes on thier site.
scratch that found on bottom nvm thanks though these seem solid and the right size, will rotate some in for specialty vehicles for sure.

Good that you found the info.
For anyone else, KR's site says:
"There are TWO sizes of KR trays, the standard tray at 380mm x 255mm, and the half tray at 190mm x 255mm."
Heights are listed here:

I use Feldherr foam inside a "really useful" 21 litre box. Works , stacks, fits under beds and is really sturdy.
Other foams fit in too (the KR are longer and fit in). You can get 6 half sized foams in.
I'll see if I can take photos later if I remember!

I'd go with KR Multicase if you are set on foam. They have great selections and customizability.
Otherwise, I cannot recommend Battlefoam Magna-Racks highly enough. They are the best at protecting delicate/spindly models you don't want to repair on the regular, and it gives you the most options once you get it. Grab a giant thing of 0.25" rare earth magnets for bases and a hot-glue gun. (Hot glue is tough and stretchy as opposed to superglue being brittle. Plus it dries in about the same time.) Daub down hit glue in a blob big enough to cover the sides of the magnet and press magnet in. Remove any remnant that sticks up or covers the top of the magnet with a fingernail, toothpick, or knife. Add more magnets for top heavy models or metal and you are good to go.

There is no one best transport case. there is so many different aspects to consider. My personal situation. as i dont fly or long haul my models Snap-ware stacking containers with sheet metal bottoms and magnets are the best as it lets me load up a ton of models up right and secured enough for a drive. extra containers can be snapped on for things like dice, rulers and books if need be. metal and magnet trays make it so you dont need to worry about models chipping or breaking against foam. the downside is that the containers are only tall enough for dreadnought size or smaller models. so a different container is needed for big things. or heavy modifications will be required. also any major accidents or spills can be horrific. imho the best case for travel by air would be a pelican style hard case with lock the kind i believe battlefoam makes. Alternatively for those who want way more customization you could look into custom cut foam outside of major case makers. Funny enough I found that you can make a custom foam tray for about the same or less price as a normal pluck foam tray through websites by cheesing the system a bit. (making individual final sized foam trays are way more expensive than making one BIG tray with multiple trays made with margins added for parting and doubling up on the same kind to make thicker foam trays) all you need is the proper foam bottom and some 3m spray adhesive. ) ymmv. it all really depends on your actual use case and how much kit you plan on hauling and the method of travel.

KR vote here. I have all manner of eldar, and the only time they've broke in case, someone punted it across a room. (Foot = small sharp impact, and my dumb ass wasn't using the cardboard right at the time) I've literally chucked that thing in sevral trunks, let other people heavy cases fall all over it, pulled it out, and everything was fine. This happens every two weeks.
If you want to be fancy, Crystal fortress is great, but my god, the expense.
