The swarmlord is a trap in regular 40k. He looks great on paper but hes a massive target that will not survive the first turn and he only has the one trick of launching himself or a pack of genestealers forward.
Nids work best by bringing overwhelming threats and redundancies.
1) Overwhelming threats - bring as many things that can hurt as possible. So many things with no clear target so the opponent has no clear target priority. SOMETHING with get through.
2) Redundancies - Bring 2 of everything. And not just 2 of everything 2 of each thing that can do a job. My nid warriors bring deathspitters and venom cannons. Raveners with deathspitters. Hiveguard with impalers. 3 Neurothropes for psychic support and mind bullets. Biovores.
Biovores and Neurothropes bring mortal wounds. warriors and ravs bring deathspitter mass anti infantry fire. Venomcanons and implaers are some anti tank along with the mortal wounds.
When the enemy sees 2 of every one of those units on the other side of the table which unit is he picking out to kill? What difference does it make when he kills it? I stay fully capable of taking out any target he throws at me.
But the swarmlord... Well if he kills it before you sling shotted your genestealers forward now you just lost a ton of points and just have to run your genestealers forward like any other foot slogging infantry.
The swarmlord was really great when 8th dropped before anyone realized his trick. Everyone knows now. He's a dead man walking.
