Wondering where this rule is from as my friend told me my Crusader cannot attack infantry in ruins on the first floor. Is this a real rule and does it only apply when there is actually a second floor?

It is not a rule. If you have line of sight and are in range then you can shoot them.

It's possible they are thinking of the ITC rule about not being able to shoot through windows on the first floor of ruins, but that is a houserule for a specific tournament and not a part of the game rules. Also, even if you are using that rule then it doesn't just apply to Knights, it applies to everything.

I think he is referring to the fact that Knights cannot charge enemy units that are more than 1"+Base thickness elevated since you measure to the base. In this case, yes, units on the upper floor of a ruin are totally immune from being charged by a knight.

does he mean attacks as in close combat attacks because if so he is correct, you cant finish your charge or attack a unit that is more than an inch away, and for most terrain the first floor is usually more than 1 inch high however you are still free to shoot

Ah, I got confused and thought they were talking about the ground floor! Should have known better as a British person, 0th floor before 1st floor.

But yes, that's likely the cause of the issue. The topic says "shoot", while you can't charge anything above the ground floor, you can absolutely shoot at anything you can see and that is in range (and at least one Knight weapon doesn't even need line of sight!).

Ah ok, so maybe it is an ITC rule. Recently my area is having an ITC event. Ok so in NORMAL games, knights can shoot as long as their feet has line of sight into the ruins. Thanks, I was getting confused.

No. LOS is from any part of the shooting model to the target model.

Line of sight is from any part of the Knight.

And even with ITC rules, you can still shoot infantry on the ground floor if you can draw line of sight to them, so long as that line of sight isn't only through windows.
