For reference these are the 3DS games I currently own:

Spoiler:

Fire Emblem Awakening
Fire Emblem Fates Birthright
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Bravely Default 1
Code of Princess (seriously why isn't there a CoP 2 already!)
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Monster Hunter Ultimate 4
Ocarina of Time

So I've not always kept up with the releases on the 3Ds - esp any of the smaller names that aren't huge franchises pushed by Nintendo and as I've not yet found any cash for a Switch, I'm still mobile with my 3Ds and after more games. I'd be interested in strategy/RPG style games. I've already considered:
Etrian Odyssey - simple classic RPG dungeon gaming and I've messed around in the demo for one or two of them a few times. Though in some way's its rather bare-bones - maps can be repetitive too. Though I've also found it neat to have freedom to make characters without the same pressure some others have to level and level constantly (eg many new Fire Emblem games never have a level end - you just keep reclassing for even more levels and stats). There's also something near 6 or so games on the 3DS.

Shin Megami Tensei series - not totally sure on this series or how it plays. Humans in demon infested regions with devil capturing/summoning elements. That should attract me instantly, but the animation and art style appear to suffer a bit like how Dragon Warrior Monsters did going from 2D to 3D in Nintendo - ergo an exaggeration of more "cute" over "rl" styles of art. Though I could be mistaken or simply only seen a small subset of examples. There's also loads of games and I'd never be sure which would be good to go for.

Those are just two series that stood out, but I'm sure there must be other games to consider that I'm just unaware of. So what are some you've enjoyed, even if they don't fit in "strategy/rpg" since really good games are always worth considering.

The MGS3 port on the 3DS is great, though not really RPGy or Strategy. It has a freely controllable 3rd person camera (like the Subsistence PS2 version) and they also added a crouch walk so you're no longer stuck between choosing to run (too visible, low camo index) and crawling (too slow, cannot react as quickly if you get spotted such as using CQC).

There's a downside as they added a balancing system for crossing the wobbly bridge and balancing on tree branches which uses the 3DS's gyroscope. So you have to hold the 3DS horizontal to not fall off, which is really dumb.

You can also turn photos on the 3DS into camo patterns. Seems pretty random what the game will determine the camo to be good at but it's a laugh to try out with some random photos.

There's some framerate drops at certain points but not enough to impact my enjoyment, though of course your experience may vary.

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Interesting, though the last time I played MGS was the first game on the PS1 - neat game and quirky storyline but I've never really kept up with the series as a whole.

MGS3 is the "other good standalone" one. It's probably got the best story of the bunch and isn't bogged down by the all the nonsense that plagues 2, 4, and 5. Not on the 3DS but 5, despite its story being a disaster has simply phenomenal gameplay.

The latest pokemon (US/UM) isn't bad, and it's a pretty good send off for the Gameboy series of games.

Is there a permanent stickied thread for Chaos players to complain every time someone/anyone gets models or rules besides them? If not, there should be.
