Hey everyone, I started a Black Legion force from the Apocalypse CSM set and initially I wanted to expand to 1000 points using 3 Disco Lord and 2 Contemptor Dreads.
I am however hesitant to get multiple disco lords as they are monoposed and was wondering I can get some feedback as to what else would be good to use at 1000 points first.

Units I currently have are

30 CSM (mostly bolters)
6 Bikers (chainswords)
1 Terminator Lord (unbuilt)
6 Chosen from Dark Vengeance
1 Chaos Lord (Lord Kranon)
2 Dual butcher cannon contemptors
1 Abaddon

I would like to avoid cultists if possible though and any feedback would help

Daemon prince(s) and havoks, maybe?

Black Legion? Apocalypse?

Ya'll want some Abadabadingdong and 9 Obliterators.

hmm for a 1000 point list build from what you have I suggest the following:

Black Legion Battalion:

HQs:
Abaddon the Dispoiler
Sorc in Terminator Armor with power sword (or staff it's preferance really) and combi bolter
Chaos Lord with Chainsword and bolt Pistol

Troops:
6 squads of chaos space marines. 5 man squads bare bones but give the 5th man in each squad a Reaper chaingun and the Aspiring champion a combi bolter.

Fast attack:

6 Bikers


that'll give you 999 points worth of stuff and is a solid use of what you have.

to expand you have a few options. (including a lord discordant monster mash yes)
Maybe consider a spearhead detachment of a Lord discondant and some Maulerfiends.

Unfortunately I don't have the reaper chaingun and my champions were done with bolter chainsword loadouts. Would it be better to keep the troops as min squads of bolter dudes and instead swap them out for maybe terminators or havocs?

Oh I meant I have a set of the CSM apocalypse set, not building for apocalypse haha.

yeah you could, I was trying to suggest a build that would use most of what you had. given the lack of a reaper, and the lack of a combi bolter on the champions that frees up 132 points. that might be eneugh points to squeeze a contemptor in (don't have access to the forgeworld index so I can't say for 100% sure)

as for the troops yeah you could run just 3 5 man units, I mostly went with using the full 30 because you had them.

incidently given how hard they can be to get, if you just used CSMs with heavy bolters and said theywhere chain guns I know I'd be fine with it, so it's worth looking into just HOW WYSIWYG your local community is.

Get a heavy bolter, cut the muzzle off, and use an assault cannon head. Any DA player should have a ton of extra he could give you. Boom. Instant chain cannon.

I am a bit hesitant to start up on black legion even though the new models are great. The whole thing with one wound on chaos space marines feels wrong. Chaos space marines used to be mean(er) space marines. Now just sub-par.

If GW eventually decides to buff them to primaris-level then what happens to the just released models? They should prolly just have given chaos the primaris upgrade right off the bat.

Well i dont think there will be chaos primaris for awhile seeing as i feel gw wants to seperate how csm and sm feel on the table. Hence i think csm will keep the older sm stuff while primaris will move in and shove the old sm stuff away

I tend to agree. park a old CSM beside a old spoace marine, back up 5 feet, they look more or less the same. one just has horns. now CSMs and space marines each have their own distinct look

Primaris won't be going to Chaos without a story event. Probably. They've foreshadowed it enough to give them multiple avenues to get there. Cawl cloning what he shouldn't - say some traitor legion Primaris, a few Daemon Primarchs showing up for their new children, plus Fabius Bile getting his hands on some gene tech to keep them going AND help existing Chaos SC's cross the Rubicon Primaris (which I guess is what they're going to call it). This is all going to require Cawl to dabble in what he's not supposed to, on a planet that isn't Mars or Terra but still near the Sol system/Eye of Terror enough for Abby, Fabius, and the Daemon Primarchs to swing by for a cup of tea. W're all likely to have a front and center seat as part of next summer's campaign.
