So I really like the look of the untamed beasts from warcry, especially the guy with the 2h-sword, and decided to get that game, because I want to paint them.

Problem is, I would like the models much more if they would a) wield steel weapons and b) wear boots.

So my question is: Can I convert them so they all use steel swords / axes / spears without beeing unfluffy? Is there another reason for them using bone weapons other than "there is no metal in the realm of beasts"? Maybe something like "we dont use metal because that would make us weak"?

Because I think the first thing those guys would do after a fight with another warband would be taking those nice shiny weapons from their enemies corpses.

(I know the answer is "its your model, do what you want", but i would hate doing so if that would be unfluffy)

I don't have the models yet (got them on order and should arrive any day now!) but my impression from the photos is that the weapons are moulded into the arms on most of the models. This means you can most certainly convert but it might be tricky and you might have to cut blades off at the hilt and then affix new blades to them. This can be doable with plastic but can require quite delicate connection points and some careful work.

As for boots if you've got good greenstuff skills you could make them wrap-on fur boots or hide boots or the like. You might find you have to file down the toes on the foot to get them to move in rather than splay out, but otherwise it should be possible, just fiddly. Practice on some other models or a general foot shape before committing to the models.

As for the lore my impression is that the Realm of Beasts has animals which have a vast variety of strengths in bone. Some of the vast beasts have bones as tough as metals. So why take that heavy metal sword when you've got a lighter bone weapon which is just as hard; plus you pulled that bone from the corpse of a mighty beast that you and your warband felled. You helped kill that beast, your people bonded over the kill, your band now goes to war with the weapons formed from its carcass. No waste for the mighty, you are as untamed as the beast that you slew.

That changed my point of view a little bit. I guess they will keep their bone-weapons for now. Maybe if i can get my hands on a cheap second warband (they're already on ebay), i will convert them with metal weapons just for the looks.

But they will still be getting boots ;-) I just dont like the idea of them running around barefoot.

I'm sure broken up kits will be popular for a good while, though apparently Dark Sphere reported that GW has run out of trade stock, which means that the split up kits might vanish fairly quickly. But then again we've no idea if GW will do another print run nor how long they will leave it before Untamed Beasts go on individual sale in their own box.

It's not just that "animals have bones that are hard as steel", the actual 'Realmstone' for Ghur(Realm of Beasts) is described as amber-hued bones naturally occurring in rocks like fossils.

Doing the weapon teeth up as amber-bone would be a great thing, especially since it's mentioned as being what the Untamed Beasts have used for their weapons.

Good to know. Actually I dont really know much about the AoS-chaos-background stuff yet. But AFAIK the warcry core book has a large fluff section, which I cant wait to read.

It and the Core Book for Age of Sigmar proper both will really let you know how the Realms work.

But the TLDR version? There's a material called "Realmstone". It manifests differently in the various Realms. Ghyran(Life) has 'Jade Ice' for example that starts off as just that and then 'melts' into a jade liquid that can grant lifesaving properties, and then shifts back. It's extremely important and valuable and exhibits something associated with the Realm proper. Amber Bones can be 'mastered', allowing for an individual to effectively gain the traits of the animal they're patterned after.

I will be removing the bones weapons from all of mine. They look dumb in my opinion.
