Looks like the Ultramarines cards are on top of the standard Space Marine cards, rather than in addition, so two card packs to buy!

Some preview images are out on the New Zealand website! I have noticed two new things so far:
- Ultramarines Codex Supplement shows Intercessors painted in 1st company colours.
- The Space Marine Codex shows las-fusils and an Eliminator sergeant with instigator bolt carbine. There is also an Eliminator with a new type of pistol.

Sergeant Chronus can now go into any vehicle with the appropriate keyword, not just specific named vehicles like before. So he can now go in many of the Forgeworld vehicles or the Terminus Ultra from the Index!



The Ultramarines Chapter Ancient has a 9" radius instead of 6" for the Company Ancient. I think that could be combined with the relic to go to 12" total.

It's a shame that they probably won't update the old Index units - I'm not expecting any detailed update to individual units, but it would be nice if they made army-wide special rules also available to units that are only in the Index, i.e. letting them use Angels of Death, and e.g. letting Orks use DakkaDakkaDakka. Otherwise the Index units are difficult to use now.

The biggest issue with the lack of updates to the Index is for the models that they still sell! The Land Raider Excelsior and Rhino Primaris from Warhammer World are only in the Index and probably won't get the update. As far as I know, they are still for sale. Legion of the Damned are also still for sale and are only in the Index.

I'm more thinking of the regular Lieutenants due to them not having official models, and just checking that some of the more silly options, like stormbolter/master crafted bolter, are still legal.

From one of the Youtube videos showing all the datasheets, the Lieutenants appear to be the same as in the previous Codex Space Marines. I'm not sure how you get both stormbolter and master-crafted bolter though, as even the old Codex doesn't allow that in the way I read it - I can only see an option for one gun and not two.

Actually, you can't. The only way the Commander can be assembled from the box is with aiguillettes and cape. If you look at primaris officers, no lieutenant out of dozen we have so far has either, both are found only on primaris captains (and that's the bits you can't avoid, helmet, backpack, and iron halo also obviously point at captain).

The artwork for the complete Ultramarines Second Company in the original 8th Edition Codex shows a non-Primaris lieutenant. It uses the backpack from the Space Marine Commander model, and possibly the front of the torso, but doesn't have the cloak.

For mine, I used Vael Donatus from Kill Team Cassius, but with different arms and the Commander backpack without the iron halo.

A couple of things I noticed in the new Ultramarines Codex:

- The Chapter Champion is massively improved! 6" heroic interventions, always fights first, re-rolls to wound as well as to hit, an extra attack, and a master-crafted power sword instead of a standard one. It's also gone down in points. I think I'll be trying one out soon.

- The Terminus Ultra is mentioned in the fluff section of the book and there is even an illustration of it, but there is no datasheet. I was very surprised by this - looks like they thought about including it, then decided not to and forgot that the fluff was still there!
